I’m currently racking my brain trying to figure out how to get Meow Lightbox to work when the only image on the page is not generated via the_content, but happens to be a featured thumbnail image generated in a PHP page template.

The code I have at present is:

But it doesn’t work and the lightbox debug log confirms an image was not detected.

Enabling output buffering does fix it – note mwl-index-“0” added below – but this seems as if it shouldn’t be expected behavior. Plus, as I want to use this with FacetWP, I really can’t use output buffering:

Alternatively, if an image happens to be embedded in the_content() – even if output buffering is disabled – the thumbnail image in the template will be detected and added to the available lightboxes.

What am I missing? It seems as if output buffering shouldn’t be necessary to fire the plugin on a thumbnail image.

Would this be a use case for calling renderMeowLightbox(); in JQuery, by chance? I read up on it in the other support threads, but I’m not that good at JS and I’m not sure I’ve implemented it correctly; this is what I added in the theme’s .JS file, to no avail:

It doesn’t do anything, but it doesn’t throw up anything in the console either.

I’m currently tinkering with a custom theme based on Bootstrap Basic that’s not playing nice with Meow Lightbox at present – both for general posts and for more complicated pages with images shown in tables generated by their own post loop query. (I’d share it, but it’s on an XAMPP test server at present)

Put simply, the Debug Log shows that Lightbox detected images and fired, but in the inspector, I can see the “mwl-img” class tags (the ones I added to photos in-line in the editor) getting almost immediately wiped on load, inexplicably.

This isn’t the first time I’ve struggled with it, as I realized that, in an earlier variant of this theme (which I like to use as a base for all my projects) I’ve apparently added the class “add-mwl” in the theme files:

Upon looking at it now, I’m 100% sure this is a kludge making up for an error with Meow Lightbox’s normal JS-injection and I just haven’t nailed the actual issue yet – obviously I haven’t forgotten to enqueue the footer correctly, but something else isn’t working right.

To my surprise however, upon turning off all plugins (short of Meow Lightbox) and runing Twenty Twenty Four as a test…I’m getting the mwl-img class stripped again.

I’m stumped. Any suggestions?

Hi, the caption works only on some posts, and only on some pictures. It seems to me like an issue with the cache, because it also shows text from older edits (which I’ve deleted), but it doesn’t change when I reset the cache.

Desired modification at the lightbox level:

In the behavior of the Lightbox, instead of defining the separation of galleries at the extension level, (which makes the galleries separate or not on the entire site) would it be possible to define it at the page level.

Indeed on some pages I would like the galleries to be separated, while on other pages I would like them not.

Is my request feasible, or does it seem far-fetched to you.

Hi, I would like to use the lightbox on a mobile device. It seems to be working mostly well on Firefox on Android, but when the image is zoomed in, then panning the image around makes the image jump to a different position. Can someone reproduce the issue and is there maybe an easy fix?

Love your plugins and use the Pro version on various sites, but I have an issue with the free version here.

Essentially, I have created a gallery with WP Grid Builder so that we can show various other information about an artwork. When the artwork is clicked, it opens up in Meow Lightbox and we’d like the information from the image meta data to show up. This worked perfectly in v5 up until v5.17 (and the caption kept the line breaks too, which was perfect).

However, since v5.18 no title or caption are being shown – the image shows in the lightbox fine, but no title or caption info shows up at all.

Any idea what happened there and how I can get the titles/captions back?

Hi, I have a bilingual website and I set up two images to be shown for each language (using Translatepress), but Meow Lightbox only opens the image of the English version even on the German page. Is there an obvious setting that I missed?

I am using the Meow lightbox and it works great besides the fact that I can’t seem to get the lightbox to work for the images on the home page. We are using WP Rocket to optimize our page. But after activating WP Rocket, the captions only appears if the user is logged in. How can we fix this?

Besides this, the newest release 5.1.9 doesn`t work; the captions disappears for all users, so we have go back to version 5.1.7 which works the best with Divi Builder and the plugin Divi Torque Lite to create image carousels.

Hi, i know this is not directly a Meow Lightbox problem, but if i could have an idea, some clarification on why it doesn’t work and in which direction to look it would help me a lot.
I’m using Leaflet Map plugin (with Extensions for Leaflet Map) and i changed the ‘layer on click’ function to open a picture instead of a popup. And i want to open those pictures inside the Meow Lightbox, i added the ‘selector’ ‘.lightbox-map-image’ but that’s not working.
I have a geojson overlay on my plan and this is how i try to open the lightbox inside Leafleat Map :

Hello,

On the prior version (5.1.7) everything worked fine. The images on my page are shown cropped but when clicking on them they’re opened within the meow lightbox and are displayed without crop. After the update to version 5.1.8 this is not the case anymore, they are displayed within the lightbox the same as on the page, so they’re also cropped. I’ve just found out that enabling the “Agressive Resolve” does help to display the original image within the lightbox again. Is this normal behaviour?

I am writing to inform you about an issue that was identified by the WP Rocket support team. They discovered a conflict caused by the “Output Buffering” option in Meow Lightbox, which affects the PHP buffer.

In my case, for example, this issue causes a fatal error with NinjaForms and makes the form unusable (broken).

Here are the details:

The issue occurs when the “Output Buffering” option is enabled.
It clears the PHP buffer at an incorrect location, removing the HTML closing tags when those are inside text/template scripts.
This problem arises specifically when the “Remove Unused CSS” option is used in WP Rocket.

The conflict is found on line 63 of /meow-lightbox/classes/core.php, where the following code is hooked to the init action if Buffer mode is enabled (isObMode):

add_action('init', array($this, 'start_ob'));

Disabling the “Output Buffering” option in production fixes the issue, but a more permanent solution would be appreciated.

Hey there! You’ve developed a nice plugin there, I’m very happy with it.

Well, except for one thing: There seems to be a conflict with the lazy-load feature of Perfmatters. When I activate this, the lightbox no longer works properly. It seems like Meow Lightbox is loading the placeholder images that are replacing the original images until they come into the viewport.

Perfmatters has the option to exclude images or parent containers of images from lazy loading, but that didn’t help. I tried various settings of Meow Lightbox but without success, too.

Any idea how to fix this? You can see the problem live on the page I have attached.

The nice_shutter_speed() function is mentioned here. In the options, only the caption is activated.

J’ai un gros problème avec le plugin Meow Lightbox.

En effet, le plugin me génère des dizaines d’erreurs par seconde, générant mon fichier debug à 2 go de données par jour !!

[Solved] Meow Lightbox / Gallery adding more images than selected to my gallery

So, when I select three images for a new gallery, then add the shortcode, the shortcode displays the three images fine. When I click on the first image, it pops up in the lightbox, but it says “6/8” (images) in the top left corner. When I click on the second image, it says “7/8”. When I scroll through the images in the lightbox, after it gets to 8/8, it takes me to image 1/8. Images 1 – 6 are images I never selected for the gallery. They are other images in my media folder.

I am completely lost. Hope someone can help. Thanks.

I fixed it. Under “Selector” I just deleted everything except “.mgl-gallery”. I have no idea why, but it now properly displays “3/3” and does not show any extra pictures in my gallery other than the three I selected.
