the plugin only supports paypal, strip and autorize.net
it is therefore not suitable for people in countries where these services are not supported. if they can work on this issue then i’ll be glad to give the plugin a 5 star rating

I feel like I’m saving money with this membership plugin as it’s getting the job done and it’s been reliable so far. Always keep a good backup of membership data.

I love the value what they offer for the subscription price. Useful plugins.

After trying a dozen other membership applications and plugins – I settled on Membership Pro 2 (the licensed version) and have successfully run an active membership site for a few years with it and have no problems other than the ones I’ve caused by not paying attention.

Very robust membership plugin, easy to use. Very clean admin interface, no conflicts with my other plugins.

This plugin (Pro version) meets the needs of our somewhat hierarchical association very well.

In what dimension do you want to sell people a membership and never talk to them again? Aparently, in the WPDEV world! As in, they advertise this plug in with an MAILCHIMP add-on, but the integration doesn’t even work!!
I spent 3 days getting the plug in set, only to find out this bug in final testing.
Contacted support only to be told it was a known issue with NO solution.
Wasted a lot of time and money. BEWARE, don’t use this plug in.

I was prompted to leave a review and so I’m going to. (Thanks automated prompt!)
So I’m partly responsible for breaking the code on this plugin, because I was trying to massage it to do my custom bidding, but that didn’t turn out to well. Either the documentation was lacking or my knowledge in how to manipulate and wield APIs according to industry best practices are lacking. I’m a solo developer so it’s hard to say which it is.
I will note the use of tables in various layouts on the site, definitely a big-no-no by any modern web standards.
But WPMU DEV customer support was pretty good about helping me realize that it was my own code that was causing what was the biggest issue. (I had been wrestling with the issue for two months on my own because I didn’t want to pay for the customer support.) I’ve still not fully figured out how to get my code to do what I want it to do.
Overall performance and lag seems a bit bogged down though as well. Almost too much reliance on ajax it feels like to me. For example, when I go to log in, the process takes a couple of seconds, and the the login screen flashes for about half a second, making me think the login failed and then it finally logs me in.
(I am definitely not a fan of WPMU DEV’s all or nothing business model that requires me to pay a monthly premium to keep services active. That’s neither here nor there related to this particular plugin, except that I have to be current on my subscription to get any updates for the plugin!)

I only have the free version of this plugin and it is by far the easier and best to use. The shortcodes are awesome, my only complaint is the registration/profile/login page they use, but I was able to use another plugin just for the registering process and everything works great!

If you use it in fairly standard ways, it’s fine. However, I have two major issues with it. The first is that when recently updating the plugin, it did not reactivate after updating. In the short window of time when the plugin was inactive, an executive from our largest client was looking at the site and found that anyone could access it without logging in. We may lose this client because of that. The other issue is that all the plugin data is stored in a serialized array in the user meta table. This is a bad practice. Because it is stored in a serialized array it makes it difficult/inefficient to do custom programming using information from the plugin. In order to access the data you have to first unserialize it, or you can query using regex, which is not always going to return reliable results.

This is a great plugin. Exactly what you’d expect from WPMUDEV. The Pro version give you a bunch of extra add-ons that really adds a lot of value.
You can create numerous different subscription types and for each you can choose whether it’s free, payed once or reoccurring or give access for a limited time. You can even make the public content or basic membership content invisible to premium members so that they don’t see all the promotion stuff which is meant to sign people up.
The only thing that I think is missing – and I don’t understand why they left this out – is having options for different billing cycles (i.e. weekly/monthly/annually) I really hope they add this to their next major update or as an add-on.

I’ve used the plugin for a couple of years now and it has improved greatly over that time. It is an effective solution for our business. I must say that the support these guys provide is the best in the industry. They know their stuff, respond quickly and resolve issues fast. It is a vital app for our website.
There are a few modifications I’d like to see but I’m confident they will be included in future versions.

It’s possible to organize all your subscriptions well.
In case of danceschool classes I miss the inheritance of the higher level. Now one should put all lower classes beneath the member.

The plugin seems to work fine here. We have 12 members at the moment.
We misses support for Danish language though. Anyway to add or help with translations?

I have been using Membership Pro 2 and have been able to work closely with the Membership Pro 2 support team to customize and manage my memberships! I’ve been very satisfied with this membership plugin.

Not user friendly and not easy to customize the look at all.
Interface for user or admin is like from the 90s.
Limited gateway as well, we had to develop our own to accept cryptocurrency.
Have to stick with it now though as we all ready put more then 200 hours into it.
Next time I got a membership site project I ll simply buy a commercial solution for $200 dollars, which will save me the wasted time and headache!
Disappointing, although I know the WPMU usually has better products.

I tried this plugin some years ago and then favored Paid Memberships Pro, but after I kept running into stuff I couldn’t do with it, not even with the paid version, I looked again and tried Memberships2 again. Now, it could do anything I wanted to do, dripped content (which is usually unavailable) and upgrade pathways, also not something you find in these plugins, the ability to protect everything, including custom post types and even shortcodes… I won’t be going back.
It may be too complicated for a newbie who might not know what everything means, but for someone who needs flexibility and knows what they’re doing, amazing!

First, the good: This plug in comes from WPMUDEV, where I’m a member, so it has great chat support. I like this group so much I tend to overlook flaws in their products and hate to say anything bad. Also, Memberships 2 works in a sophisticated and elegant way when it’s working properly. Lack of support is my number one complaint about WordPress plugins and themes, and this one, because it’s part of my membership, has that locked up. I can get someone on chat 24/7.
Now, the bad.
Honestly, I would have given 2 stars instead of 3 if not for what’s mentioned above. There are a few major bugs. Case in point: When I first set this up, about half of the test memberships I created said they were expired even though the expiration date was December of 2018. I couldn’t figure out what the difference was between the first set (the ones that worked and showed active) and the second. Neither could the folks at WPMUDEV. I finally discovered that, though you are allowed to change the person from visitor to paid member on the users list, if you do, they come up as expired. The only way they will show as active members is if you create an invoice and go through the process of marking it paid. Which is fine. But you have to do it in that order. If you mistakenly mark them a member on the list, then try to go create and invoice and pay it, you might as well just delete the user and start over. This is clearly not how it’s supposed to work, or else why would I be able to mark them as an active member on the list at all? It’s not fixed (even though I reported this bug months ago), by the way, so if you encounter the problem, remember this post.
That’s just one of the funky issues I’ve come up against. I’ve seen boxes that I just checked uncheck themselves when I hit “save changes” and things that were working fine just stop working. The support staff has been very good at helping me through them, but should you have to spend so much time talking to them? I don’t think so.
BOTTOM LINE:
– Sophisticated, smart plug in;
– Buggy – it feels almost like it hasn’t been fully tested.
I haven’t gotten that far into it yet because we’re a new organization and don’t really have a lot of members or much protected content at this point, but I kept getting prompted to review, and since I spent at least an hour on with tech support last night, I figured I’d say something. I will update when I’ve “broken it in” more.

I have used this for over a year trying to get the site going, it has never let me down, yes there are a few idiosyncratic bits, but it really does have all you need as a dependable framework, and you can always add bits to it.
I use it to control menu access and page access to formidable forms, so basically it’s my access control sub system for my multi-user forms web app.
I can’t fault the application or the work that the WPMU guys do, however the one complaint I have is that I can’t buy the Pro Version on it’s own without having to pay for a whole load of other stuff I don’t want. But really appreciate the basic version is free, so will donate to this dev when I have some money coming back from my site.
Many thanks for a great plugin guys…

Where to start.
Can not activate PlugIn with xTheme have not determined which is the problem as yet but suspect xTheme reverted back to Standard WP theme activated then changed back to xTheme.
I have been using xTheme and xTheme Pro and there is a conflict on adding a ShortCode into a new page. Seems to be problems at times with other Themes as well, was using OceanWP and format of pages all over the place.
Have been attempting to do away with the default MemberShip selection page, that has been fun, the ShortCodes don’t seem to work as expected.
Several other problems but just need to know not to go there. Still marching on and see what else I have to work around.
But must say compared with several other premium membership plugins it is well rounded and behaves.
Addition to what I added the other week;
What would make it really good is to have the user interface for there account more modular, meaning having the edit for the members details edit as a separate ShortCode or even better all of the sections for the User Account as modules with a ShortCode for each area especially a problem with the format of the display example on a mobile/cell phone all screwed up. I have gone away from X theme with this plugin and the only premium theme I have had any sort of luck with has been Total but still the problem of layout with edit members profile only way I have found to clean it up is with changing the CSS using Yellow Pencil. But would be so much better if it was all module like, as with many Membership Plugins they all have similar problems. Thinking of delving a bit deeper and possibly crating my own Plugin to over write it.

Currently evaluating in a sandbox, but at first glance I’m not sure we will use it. We’re bit on using Divi from Elegant Themes, and there are some UI issues that seem to reflect a lack of QA. Today, noticed that the Login widget doesn’t dynamically adjust to the size of the sidebar. Not a huge issue, but 1) I don’t want to have to customize the code for this, and 2) even the BuddyPress widget does a better job of handling this (and includes the Gravatar).
In short – I’m not sure the plugin makes sense in general, and not inclined to purchase it if (relatively) minor issues like this are cropping up.

All of a sudden the code did not work for the restricted content page. There’s nothing there. The code is installed but there is no message saying you need to purchase a membership to access this page … etc etc.
I liked it before this happened.
