Plugin no longer works.
]]>I used Media Rename for une year but after updating wordpress to release 4.3 the plugin has stopped working.
Someone found a way to repair the plugin?
Hi again
Second problem spotted:
Say I change a filename through the field in the media library. I check the media box and do a “Rename” operation.
Later, I want to also retitle the media. The filename is the new one (verified through the media page), the filename in the “filename” field is also the new one.
I check the box of the media, launch a “Rename and Retitle” but the media name doesn’t change. For it to change, I must set a different filename, do “Rename and retitle” (or just rename) and then go back to the filename I want and do “Rename and retitle”.
I hope I’m understandable. How can we solve?
]]>Hi
I don’t know if it’s partial incompatibility with WP4.3 or something else, but here is the case I met.
I renamed files through the field in the media library, checked the box of the media and launched a “rename and retitle”.
>> The title of the media changed ok
>> Just under is the filename (with .jpg). It didn’t change…
>> BUT if I open the media page and check the URL to the image, the filename has changed.
It seems to only be cosmetic but it serves also as a verification of correct operation.
]]>Hi
There is an error: “Bad characters or invalid filename!”
When I use RTL language!
This plugin is so nearly there but I cannot batch rename titles exactly the way I want it.
I have filenames with underscores and I do not want any uppercase. But, sadly, I cannot get this plugin to stop removing underscores and replacing with spaces.
Also, it would be lovely to have the GUIDs updated as well. All my image filenames are unique so this should create no issue.
]]>Hi,
got the error message “File renaming error!”. The whole “uploads” folder has 777, so the plugin can wrote. Any suggestions what I can try?
]]>H, I have an issue, guid is not updated, how can I solve this?
]]>File renaming error!
With file names with chars like:
S??uchacze-opowie??ci-o-o??tarzu-papieskim-z-Zaspy-150×150.jpg
or:
S??dziowie-rozdaj?…-szarfy-m??odym-sportowcom-294×197.jpg
with others chars and language special chars works great.
Filenames are after folder/files moving from one hosting to the other.
]]>Trying to rename individual picture and I get this error message: “Bad characters or invalid filename!”
What am I doing wrong?
]]>Dear all,
we use the plugin with WP 4.0.1 and for the first language everything works fine. But it seems that there a WPML issues.
When we duplicate a page in another language the renamed images disappear. In the media-library appear no thumbnails anymore, only empty squares.
]]>Hello,
Thank you for this plugin. I wanted to mention that it doesn’t play well with the plugin polylang. On my website, it renamed the files perfectly and corrected the links for one language, but not the other, i.e. the french version worked as expected but the english version of my website was then unable to find the media files that had been re-named.
]]>Greetings,
Each time I try to rename a file containing some “special characters” (such as “é”, “?”, etc.), the operation fails and I get a File renaming error!
. Do you have any idea of the problem?
Regards,
]]>Hi, please see this link: https://www.sorennellemann.dk/wp01.JPG
I can see that the file URL has changed correctly to /jordensetfrahimmelen03.jpg but underneath the filename (“filnavn”) is still kgsnytorv.jpg?
Shouldn’t this be changed as well?
]]>Firstly great plugin, love it!
Think I’ve spotted a tiny bug (since v4 of wordpress) the physical file renames as I would expect, however within ‘Edit media > save panel’ the ‘File name:’ entry doesn’t update to the new media name.
]]>So here’s the problem:
At first everything was fine but I have an old blog with many problems so I had installed a few new plugins (like Imsanity, Import External Images and EWWW Image Optimizer). And from now on the renaming provess doesn’t seem to end. I do all the same stuff but the process doesn’t stop by itself, only after page refresh after some time I can see that some files were renamed. And some are not (maybe just isn’t enough time dunno.
Hello,
Thank you for your plugin has solved alot of my clients issues, I’m finding no issue when renaming a file from the attachment edit page for that specific media file.
But if I’m in the Media Library listing and change the name there and click enter it simply reloads the page without any change.
When I do click enter the URL changes though to:

*Not sure if that’s of any help.
Let me know if I can assist in troubleshooting.
Appreciated,

Your plugin looks like the solution for fixing extremely long image file names on my client’s blog. However, I can’t get it to install.
1. When installing from “Install Plugin” (Plugin Installer) in the WP dashboard I get this error message: “Could not create directory. /home/unsername/public_html/wp-content/upgrade/media-rename.tmp”
2. I downloaded the plugin zip file and uploaded it via “Install Plugin” (Plugin Installer) only to get this message: The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature
3. I unzipped the plugin and FTPd it to the plugins folder. 10 files did not transfer to the server. “Could not start transfer.”
Now what?
We’re using WP 3.6 and permissions seem to be as they should be.
Thanks.
]]>Hello,
The version i have installed is 3.2.3.
I get error when trying to rename a file – the same error from the media list and when editin a specific image: File renaming error!
The hosting is on windows.
Thanks,

]]>Hello,
I’ve recently been having issues uploading images and have narrowed it down to the recent WP 3.8.1 update and your Media Rename plugin.
Deactivating this specific plugin resolves the issue, but would like to re-enable for use in my instance.
When I go to upload a file through the Media Uploader it looks like it gets to 100% and then the error message is displayed:
An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.
Looking into the debug.log I found an error associated with this plugin:
[24-Jan-2014 11:08:03 UTC] PHP Notice: Undefined index: post in /usr/www/users/fredf/myvancity/wp-content/plugins/media-rename/class-media-rename.php on line 37
Any assistance appreciated,
Cheers
Hi and first of all thank you for this useful plugin.
I am renaming my files, but sometimes instead of displaying the green “success” box next to the renamed file, it displays a red “-“.
What does that mean?
Thanks

Hi! I have installed your plug-in to change my file names to hebrew letters, but it doesn’t’t work (I receive error “bed characters or invalid file name). Could you help me out?
]]>Thanks for the nice plugin first it working very slow on my site,
and how to rename all files at same time with numbers (334533) etc.
for example i select 222 to one box and it rename all files to 2221, 2222, 2223, 2224 something like that.
thanks
Hi ShadowsDweller –
Great plugin, thank-you.
Wondering if there is an easy tweak that I can make somewhere to your sanitizer code so that it will not remove an “x” (as in “times”) from filenames when porting them to the post title of the image?
For example, I have a series of lenses in a product catalogue which as part of the filename and the resulting post title need to have their focal length and zoom ratio intact (i.e. 8×32). When I rename/retitle in bulk this “x” is being removed from the post title so a file name of:
lens-rightangle-8×32-rear-projection.jpg is being sanitized to “Lens Rightangle 8 32 Rear Projection” which is great except I need that “x” back. I’ve been adding it manually, but that negates the power of your plugin!
Unfortunately, regular expressions are not my strong point. I suspect the magic is around line 238 in class-media-rename and based on reading on regex would have thought the ‘x’ as a regular alphanumeric would be untouched in the current args. I don’t want to go tinkering where I shouldn’t be without some guidance.
Thanks for your time in advance, hope you can point me in the right direction!
]]>Hi,
I’ve installed Media rename and try to rename my image, but when I click apply and change the drop down list options form bulk to rename, nothing happen, it goes back to the original name.
Please help.
Thanks – Lee
]]>Well, it works, but not as I expected…
I noticed that sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not.. So confusing..
Then I noticed that when I rename it, it deletes the previous image and recreates it with its new name, HOWEVER, it does NOT update resized images…
Let me be more clear..
If I upload a 2000px wide picture and I say to wordpress when I’m placing the image at my post that I want to use a small version of it, it creates something like imagename-300×300.jpg. it adds the size on the end of the file.. then, when I rename imagename.jpg, the post that has imagename-300×300.jpg gets broken, because it does not regenerate these other sizes..
I hope my explanation is understandable.
]]>Hi
sorry to bother you but I cannot seem to rename my images. I can physically change the name of the file but there is no ‘save’ button. Have tried pressing enter but that does nothing. There is also no option to bulk edit. The only bulk option is ‘delete permanently’
my website is https://www.rchittenden.co.uk
Oddly, when I install it onto my practice site https://www.zanchit.co.uk it works fine and there is the option to bulk edit.
I have tried disabling all the plugins, deleting and reinstalling media rename but still no joy.
Do you have any advice?
When I activate Media Rename and want to add or edit product gallery images on a product’s page, the Media Library is completely blank, so no thumbnails appear at all. When I deactivate the plugin, I do see my Library images. I wondered why that was happening. Thank you.
