I first installed the Media File Renamer only as a handler for the Real Physical Media add-on of the Real Media Library plugin. It works perfectly there – invisible, seamless and smooth. But in the meantime, I am also an enthusiastic user of the clear File Renamer Dashboard, where the files in the Media Library can be renamed automatically or manually in the easiest and fastest way, including a reliable undo function. And all this for free – thank you for this extremly useful plugin!
Forgot to mention: The support is also fantastic!

How come I’m just now learning about this plugin? It’s an essential tool if you purchase and download images, like iStockPhoto. These photos will have a filename like: istock-123456789.jpg. We have been renaming them manually before uploading and usually some on our team will skip this step and upload with the original filename. Not good for SEO. Also ALT tags don’t get properly edited.
Quite simply this plugin will take that iStock photo and use it’s EXIF description, which is usually excellent for SEO, and use that to rename the filename, ALT tag, and Caption. Automatically! For FREE!
The above works great, we’re still learning. Manual mode is a bit confusing. It appears that manually changing the filename will automatically update the Title but not the Alt tag. That has to be changed… um… manually.

To say that five stars are deserved is an understatement. If it had been possible I would have given more.
I used a plug-in to convert the images to AVIF. This plug-in however renamed the files for me by adding a suffix to the name ~jpg~avif
With Media File Renamer I was able to remove this suffix in one go to 700 files.

I’ve been paying for this plugin for years, and it has never worked properly. Initially, plugin support attributed issues to my hosting, but even after switching to premium hosting from Kinsta, the plugin still doesn’t work well. Processing larger quantities of images at once is a particular issue for this plugin. Support has given up on solving the issue. Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to find a comparable plugin, so for now, I have to make do with the ability to put only 5 files at a time into a rename queue.

There is really little to add to the title of this review other than to congratulate the Developer Mr. Jordy Meow.
As mentioned in the title of this review, the Media File Renamer: Rename Files (Manual, Auto & AI) WordPress plugin is really well designed and coded, it also turns out to be very streamlined, lightweight and packed with lots of features and most importantly it works perfectly (mind you, do not confuse the errors that can be caused by an incompatibility with obsolete versions of PHP, because using the updated versions of PHP and supported by this plugin, although I have been using this plugin for a long time, I have not yet encountered any errors in this plugin).
Basically, with Media File Renamer: Rename Files (Manual, Auto & AI), this simple but very powerful plugin for WordPress, you can freely rename all media file names automatically according to titles every time you edit them and also you can manually rename files and update references to them throughout your website, including articles, pages, custom content types and metadata, truly exceptional.
Oh I forgot… it is virtually completely free but there is also a paid Professional version available (optionally) that adds, for those who need it, support for:

I bought a big licence of the PRO VERSION for multiple stores.
This plugin is useless as the autorename does not work.
All my product pictures got the same name now. So i have to do everything manually so the licence is useless.
I sent 2 mails, so far no reply… i don’t recommend!
If the support reply back and help me fix it, i will modify my review but sio far i don’t recommend to buy it.
