Really useful app for WP sites that have become cluttered over the years.
The website I inherited was over 1GB. Media cleaner reduced it to 450mb.
Great app (in the right hands).

I had a problem to initialize the plugin, but seems it’s from my too strange MySQL install. Once support contacted, we found solution and it works perfectly as expected!

Does just what’s promised and author helpful and quick to respond on questions.

This plugin is a great help for cleaning your media library.
You should of course backup db and media – as stated – before using it – and double-check what is deleted before perfoming the permanent delete especially if you use sliders, booklets…

No actual functionality without paying for an upgrade.
This plugin identifies media files you aren’t using, but not only prevents multiple deletes — the plugin’s express purpose — it doesn’t actually allow you to delete media files via its slow, resource-intensive interface.
Personally, I think plugins like this are not only a waste of time but a scam besides. Recommend this plugin be purged from the directory.

After reading the ratings, I decided to purchased the premium plugin. I have no problem paying for something that will really help me. This plug-in did help me and save me a great deal of time. I backed my site up and then used the plug in to remove over 1,000 images that were not linked or being used. It saved me over 25 mg of space. The plug in worked perfectly, actually, better than I expected it. After I used it on my site, I removed it. If I need it again in the future, I will easily install and activate it.

Media File Cleaner does exactly what It says it will. Any web developer worth their salt should install the free version first, check out the features then upgrade to Pro. The Pro version at $15 per year is well worth it, there are no limitations on how many sites you can install it on and it ensures the developer is able to spend his time and resources providing us with a product that is regularly updated and well supported whilst still being able to put food on the table. If you don’t want to pay such a small price then go find a free version (if you can) and stop your whining. However be warned as with a lot of free plugins they have a short shelf life, their development is often abandoned early on and are poorly supported. As with most things you get what you pay for.

The author has crippled this plugin so you buy the Pro version – it’s now useless. Look elsewhere.

Nice tool for searching and deleting ‘trashy’ media files in the uploads folder. Respects Retina @2x images too.

I’m signing up for the Pro version now, because I like how this works.

Don’t use this plugin. It’s that simple.
The author has relegated the functionality of the plugin to a $15 payment. This is against the WP Plugin guidelines:
The author has pretended that the plugin works as is, and that “unlocking” the remaining functionality is merely a “PRO Upgrade.” The unpaid version let’s you delete a single file on each page load. This is the definition of a crippled piece of software.
Don’t support this spammy author – look elsewhere.

This used to be a very handy plugin. However, the author has now released a “PRO” version (that you have to pay) and in doing so, removed features from the older free version. For example, the free version let you delete all images with a click. NOW, however that feature is only available in the PRO version.
Not recommended if you have a lot of images to clean up, otherwise, you will have to manually delete each and every image… or buy the pro version… OR simply find an older version from an old backup…. like I did ??

READ ALL THE REVIEW!
It worked like a charm in my dev server.
After buying it timed out in the production server. After updating the PHP settings, the ‘Reading files’ process hanged much later (PHP’s error log outputted ‘Connection reset by peer’).
With Jordy’s (and my hosting’s) support (and a day of lonely mental torture) I made it work…
My site is based in a plugin that pulls loads of RSS, that are saved as drafts. Then the editor can publish or delete them.
These drafts have an insane amount of icons (like, comment, share, etc.) and, somehow, the deletion of the drafts did not erase these images.
After thirteen months in production (and very soft maintenance) my server had almost 2 million files uploaded and 645k orphan attachment records (in wp_posts.
After throwing some clever queries to MySQL, the plugin works like a charm!
P.S. I had to tweak your code to allow more than 15 entries per page. Is there any reason why you limited it?

My site deals with alot of images. Being a real newbie when I started the site, I really never thought about all of the extra images that were on my site. When I went to use this plugin, I ran into a bit of an odd error. A couple of plugins had included directories (and files) in the uploads directory. These files got picked up by Media File Cleaner. So, being a newbie, I freaked out a little. But, support from Jordy was top notch. So much so that I immediately bought the “Pro” version of the plugin. It is a VERY reasonable price. With the help of Jordy, I was able to get rid of a TON of unused and un-needed images.
Many folks aren’t really grasping the concept behind the free version of this plugin. Is it a little bit of a pain the ass as far as operation goes? Yes. But it is supposed to. The free plugin will work for folks that don’t have alot to delete. And it is also designed where you can take it for a test drive and see if it will work for you. THEN…if needed…go buy the Pro version.
Great plugin that will stay in my arsenal. A reasonable price. Does what it says it will do. And the support is top notch. I have paid alot more for plugins and got ALOT less in terms of support. If you need to clean out alot of images without breaking anything (just go slow and be careful…know what you are clicking on), then this is the plugin that I would recommend!

As with previous reviews, the functionality was great until they started offering a Pro version as well. Now the basic version is a bit hard to use. See adamjedgar‘s review for a description of the problem. Deleting one at a time would be fine, but it’s pretty inconvenient with all the page refreshes, etc.
If you’re interested in this plugin, you should plan on buying the license.
Furthermore, I’m guess I’m willing to pay for a Pro license because the plugin worked well in the past, but I’d rather see a lifetime usage tier rather than only a 3 site limit.

This plugin works, however the developer has clearly attempted to make functionality extremely poor when restricting its delete capabilities to “one at a time” unless pro version is purchased.
What he doesnt tell you is that when deleting one at a time, one must also hit the bloody refresh button and wait for that to happen BEFORE selecting another image and hitting delete once again.
So you cannot simply click on an image>hit delete then click on a second image>hit delete in the standard version
you actually have to click image>delete(wait a few seconds)>refresh (wait a few seconds) the select your next image>delete (wait a few seconds)>refresh(wait a few seconds and so on.
An absolute pain in the arse and not worth the flaming trouble.
Very poorly thought out standard version functionality. Its a real shame.

Be careful to make sure your logo has not been selected and a few other files.
