Can anyone please explain me what the advantage for me is to convert to JetPack? I need to connect my _self-hosted_ blog to wordpress.com? What does that even mean?
I really liked this plugin, installing it now on a new blog, and suddenly it keeps nags about JetPack, I had a look, but it installs a zillion things (it seems) and requires me to connect to wordpress.com. Why?

There are numerous Markdown plug-ins but I think this one takes the right approach in actually preserving the original Markdown content while at the same time not running the resource-heavy Markdown parser on every request. Mind you apparently the ‘post_content_filtered’ field can still get cleared up occasionally. There is a way to prevent it by adding a filter on ‘wp_insert_post_data()’.
Also, I don’t really see why to disable the rich editor. Fortunately, it is easily re-enabled with another filter. Ah, the power of WordPress filters…
Markdown Extra can be manually upgraded from 1.2.6 to 1.2.8 from Michel Fortin’s website (perhaps to a newer version too but they use a different interface and would require plugin code changes).

My blog is a perpetual project that began years ago in blogger before being exported and imported through a half dozen or more platforms, finally landing here in WordPress.
Some is HTML, some is Markdown, much is just broken in a half-formed state between the two. Markdown on Save Improved looks like just the thing to finally clean up the messes I’ve made (especially with the experimental Convert HTML to Markdown option).

I love using Markdown for most of my writing for the web, so this plugin was a godsend for me. It works perfectly on WP 3.6.

Started a fresh WordPress site using this plugin, and this is about as seamless as writing Markdown in WordPress could get!

supports markdown-plus options such as tables.
Doesn’t screw up layout of the original post in compiling the markdown.

For me, this is a perfect solution to enable every user (in German, we say DAUs) to add content without either understanding HTML or spoiling the corporate design with a visual editor.

There is not a lot of solutions to write posts in Markdown. This plugin is the best if you need a “markdown language” default feature for posts.
