I don’t think it’s for just any newbie or anyone who is in a hurry to get it all working magically.
I confess that was very hard to configure for me at first time, and may be for anyone that has no idea of many terms related to the world of mails and newsletters, but it is a plugin that, looking for the “how to“, comes to meet all requirements for the many different types of configurations that could have, also allowing to adapt or create white label custom templates. And really, a lot more of things.
Thank you.

I have wasted TWO DAYS trying to fix the incomprehensible MESS this plugin has created – over 9000 subscribers left hanging – inexplicably, they weren’t coordinated with the main mailing list, and so on and so forth. A HORROR.

When I try to activate the plugin a popup appears saying it can’t be activated.
Actually the best newsletter plugins are TheNewsletterPlugin and Mailpoet. Hope to see Mailpress join the crew soon!

You get a lot of flexibility, however as automatic upgrade is not supported keeping it running is really hard. The own plugin and add-ons concept is clearly overengineered.

I am using it mainly for newsletters and newsletter subscriptions, but I can see it can do much more. Very impressed with the cron integration as well.
On the downside the help documentation is a little lacking, but if you take the time you will find it’s a very powerful plugin.
Also managed to extend it to use my own custom theme and custom email templates and it’s working great.
So to conclude a nice powerful plugin but needs some time to learn… it’s not a simple install and activate plugin.

I’ve been using Mailpress for 4 years on my club website. Just upgraded to WP 3.9.1 MP5.4 … always working with my own newsletter theme.
Yes as some mentioned, the first step to customize and use Mailpress may appear difficult, but don’t give up, this is a must have.

It surely is me, because I don’t understand mail servers.
There is no documentation to help you.

Absolutely not user friendly.

The latest version of Mailpress does NOT include paragraphs in the HTML emails. I tested this with the twenty ten and twenty twelve templates and when the mail is sent it does not have paragraph breaks, making it all look like one big paragraph, even when viewing it in the browser. If you add the <p></p>
tags it just deletes them.
This has been mentioned before on the Google Group, with no practical resolution.
To resolve this issue, add <BR /><BR />
to create a double line space.

Better than anything similar I’ve tried. Doesn’t have any fancy drag and drop stuff but way more features than any competitor.
Use only if you’re not afraid of editing some files on your own! Not easy to figure out since the wiki went down but well worth the trouble if you’re willing to invest some time into it!

It feels like something is missing. when a user signs up for the newsletter on the [mailpress] page, they do not get any option to select categories etc. Would rate as a 5 if it all worked.

Plugin seems the best newsletter plugin for email, but without documentation is useless.

The Wiki is down since more than 4 months. How can such a complex plugin be useful without any documentation?
