Ah, ok, I now have one more hint for you: your code seems to break if there are multiple youtube iframes on one page. When I click the TOP image, ALL video thumbnails are replaced with the SAME player.

So it might be a good idea refactoring your code with the idea in mind that there might be more than one video on a page.

It replaces the youtube iframe video player, also the plugin javascript is loaded, but a click on the picture does nothing.

What are your ideas for debugging this?

After activating values some texts(like: “– ) are replaced by unexpected texts (a€? a€“).
Something like Unicode UTF-8 in Unicode UTF-16.maybe improperly converted data.
