Unfortunately, the plugin does not seem to work with LJ itself anymore. However, it is easy to modify it, so that it works with other LJ-based web sites, such as dreamwidth. In turn, dreamwidth supports fully functioning import from LJ. I have modified the plugin to support thrid-party LJ-based sites, and you can use it to import from, for example, dreamwidth. Since I haven’t understood, how to commit my changes here, I have made a modified plugin available on my github. Please google for “github asapegin livejournal-importer” (links are not allowed in the reviews).

Pls, help us. Our impots suddenly stopped working. We did’t change any in the site(https://www.a-len.ru). But import freeze on beginning with message ‘Post metadata has been downloaded, proceeding with posts…’. No any errors, no any warnings. What could be the problem? Ths for answer.

The other reviewers are correct; comments are doubled (x6 for me) for every post and I only have 117 of them, not hundreds like the others. It’s a pain in the butt, but at least all of my entries are in one spot.
If you don’t care about that sort of thing, this is for you. If you’re more organized and don’t want 30+ comments on one post when there’s technically only 7, try to find another solution.

Unless you are importing only a very small number of posts (less than a couple hundred), this plugin is essentially useless.
The plugin imports posts fine, but hopelessly scrambles comments. Some comments are duplicated; others are attached to the wrong post. On my own blog (1500 posts and 23000 comments), about 1,100 comments were attached to the wrong post and about half the comments were duplicated, some as many as 40 times.

In summary, other LJ export/import tools work fine, but this one does not. This one also does not take input from other tools that do work. In other words, this plugin is useless if you have more than 200-300 posts in LJ.
In detail, this plugin constantly bans itself within seconds. It’s impossible to download an LJ with more than just a few entries.
* Developers whine “Talk to LJ, it’s not our fault”.
* I can download my whole journal using ljArchive in about 2 minutes. I can export to an XML file with comments, moods, etc.
* This plugin doesn’t support importing an LJ from XML.
* The old plugins are only buried in old downloads,
but they require re-coding to support current WP.
Basically, this is too low of a priority to get development effort, but that doesn’t make this a good plugin. It’s just the reason why this is a bad plugin.
Also, it’s the reason why there is no functioning LJ import into WP for larger journals.
