But support is unresponsive.

It breaks the Moderation notice. The user just gets sent back to the main page and they don’t know if their comment submitted or not. In my analytics, it states that there is a javascript error, so that needs to be fixed.
It also breaks the built in discussion settings of breaking the comments into groups, and the feature of clicking “next” to get the next batch
Other than that it works. Simple plugin without options.

This plugin is brilliant, but for all the wrong reasons.
Currently running WP – Version – 5.5
You all know the story, junk bomber-bots cruises the web, see an open comments section: then swoops in and drops their get rich (and other), foul smelling loads right into your unsuspecting core, whereby you have to clean the [spam] out, if the system hasn’t already done so, but you still need to check it anyhow: just in case.
It’s a pain, am I right?
The only viable solution that I’ve found to date, (apart from installing junk plugin killers that don’t work), is to close off [all] comments on [all] pages bar one, the contacts page: that I had to monitor constantly, ..
But not any more, if you select (Button) to load the comments section, then it appears that this Plugin hides the WP comments-open-letter-box from the bomber-bots, which is brilliant.
Now I’m not saying that the junk-Bots can’t evolve: they probably will, but currently, the automatic spam scripts can’t press a button to open their bomb-bays with their stinking deposits, .. Oh’ happy days: no junk mail for over a week now.
I can highly recommend the lazy loading plugin, but as I say: for all the wrong reasons.
Hope it helps.

I work on a lot of sites that have a ton of comments so lazy loading seems like an interesting idea. Unfortunately I found this plugin breaks a very basic WP function of using an anchor to quickly scroll down to the comments section. Many themes have this “jump to comments” link built right in. Unfortunately both the “#respond” and “#comments” anchors are part of the HTML that gets lazy loaded. I hope the author comes up with a solution. Keep up the good work!

Although the plugin has not been updated for WP 5.4.2, it still works as documented.
No bloat. A straight-forward solution. Kudos to the developer, although I hope the plugin has not been abandoned.
Confirmed works with Genesis Framework.

I was looking into various ways to optimize Gravatar since it makes so many requests. Lazy loading the comments section is a very elegant and performant solution and this plugin works wonderfully.
Thanks for the plugin!

Straightforward and works well.

It’s simple and it works as intended. However I think it’s missing a feature, and it’s to specify how many comments load at a time.
I have a page with over 2800 comments and it loads all at once (It’s not slow, but it takes a while) It would be interesting to have an option to decide in batches of how many comments we want to load them.

This plugin greatly reduced page load times per GTMetrics and Pagespeed Insights. I don’t use any comment spam plugins because they slow page speed, so I’ve had to delete spam daily, until I installed this plugin. Apparently spam bots don’t click the “load comments” button so they can’t find the form? I got faster load times while reducing spam comments by 95%. Worked on 2 sites. Thank you for developing this and your continued support in keeping it updated.

Good job! Simple lightweight plugin.

This plugin doesn’t work with Divi. There’s quite a few comments in the support forum from the many Divi users, but the developer has yet to address the issue or even reply to the comments.

Update — Developer updated the plugin to work with Divi

This plugin does one thing and does it well!
Bonus point for being lightweight and not creating its own menu item (instead, it logically inserts itself under the Discussion settings).

Some of my posts have hundreds of comments. It can make a post look really messy and no one could see my nice footer! I want to hide comments unless a reader chooses to read them. Lazy Load for Comments click to load option does exactly what I needed. I’m sure it will help our load times, too. Support was very helpful as well. Thanks so much!

Plugin originally didn’t behave well on my Genesis site but Joel looked into it and now it works as it should. Fast, simple and just what I needed. A+

I am excited to say that this plugin now efficiently works with Genesis theme also.
Earlier it seemed to have some compatibility problems with Genesis but now it is working perfectly.
I am using it with my Genesis sample theme and I can effectively hide my website comments and present them only on demand.
Thank you very much for this cool one and only “comment lazy load plugin!!”

Hi Joel, this little plugin is really great and very useful, is helping me to get a better page loading speed. Please keep this little GEM updated and compatible with the future versions of WordPress.
Thank You.

Just what I’ve been looking for; a way to have comments open on every page without them taking over and bogging down the load time. The creator is here to help if you need it, just be sure to open comments on the page you test, or you’ll think the button doesn’t work. Thanks Joel

It is working as promised. It would be nice if there is a PHP code like “Click to Load Comments” so that i can use anywhere in my theme file.

I’ve tried other lazy load plugins, but this one is the simplest and works best for comments. It’s exactly what I was searching for because some of my blog entries are really long, and have additionally many comments.
Not only the page load time is reduced, also the visitor is less likely to give up reading because the scroll bar appears to never end, if comments are loaded instantly.
I thought about breaking down the comments to show only 5 or 10 at a time, with pagination, but that’s less likely to read if you have to click through them, and finding stuff in comments is also much harder if you can’t skim over them easily (or use the browsers search function).
This plugin is the perfect solution because it really loads them only if they come into view, and then you have all of them visible.
Bonus: It works with only one Popup to set it up.
Update: In version 1.0.2 the plugin also takes care for loading specific comments directly from URLs, very nice:

If I could: 10 stars.
Thanks! ??

Great plugin mate, really simple and works well. No fuss.
I’ve customised it to exclude some custom post types I’m making a plugin for on my site. It might be good for users that aren’t developers for you to give them a select box or something to include/exclude some post types.

This plugin should have been developed years ago! Actually it should be built into WordPress core if you ask me. If you have a post with 20+ comments, there is no reason why it should generate 20 HTTP requests, one for each gravatar. This simple lightweight plugin fixes all that!
