Even though he’s stopped developing this plugin, I still find it excellent. It allows you to pull data from your post and display it on your site. I use the widgets-on-pages plugin for this. Seems to have no compatibility issues with upgrades to the wordpress version.

After evaluating about two dozen different plug-ins for creating selection widgets of different kinds, Kalin’s seemed the most flexible, and just about the only one that seemed to meet my need. Specifically, I was looking for something that could generate a widget with a drop down list of all of the post titles of a specific category. You wouldn’t think it would be that tough, but try finding it! Kalin’s is of course much more powerful than this: I’ve only scratched the surface. But I was pleased to address my initial requirement so easily!
