1. The description says “free key and all your PDF will synchronised” – apparently not true. The API link from Menu says “Upgrade to Premium to create API keys.
2. Once you click takes you have the Services page: $19 per month for the Starter service that provides for just 500 pages / 100MB.
3 The Services page, even in the Feature compare section has no info whatsoever about API.

The plugin does not work and there seems to be no more support.

It looks to be a very good plugin, however there appears to be no-one responding to support issues. I have an issue where I cannot get the pdf to sync with issuu, but have had no response to my log.
I will have to find something else if this lack of response continues.

Great plugin by @benjaminniess, he even lets outsiders contribute to the plugin :-). We have moved some of the development over to GitHub: https://github.com/pronamic/wp-issuu-pdf-sync. We at Pronamic (https://pronamic.nl/) will try to help with support, issues and keep up to good work by @benjaminniess.

Once setup, Issuu PDF Sync works very smooth here, making it extremely easy to include PDF as “flipbooks” in my posts.
Sample: https://www.kegnaes-friskole.dk/penalhuset/
So if you can live with the Flash based (and thus less mobile friendly) results of Issuu, Issuu PDF Sync may be just fine for you…

After reading the FAQ and installation it’s essential then you can get this plugin running saving you time and effort.
After you install and configure “Issuu PDF Sync” plugin, you do not need to visit issuu.com again for any NEW PDF. The “Issuu PDF Sync” Installation and FAQ does not make it clear that you load your next PDF into wordpress media library FIRST, then the plugin will “push” it to issuu.com via the Issuu API. In the media library your PDF has a property indicating it “sync” status with issuu.com (useful check when something is not working). You can then add to your post using the “Issuu PDF Sync” button added to you tinyMCE post editor (see plugin settings page if it is not visible)
In summary, the main benefit is saving you the need to open Issuu.com to get your document id key, and you add PDF using WordPress tinyMCE editor “Add media” button, and then use plugin to build flipbook code for you.
You may also be using an “add download” in word-press post editor if you want a download link (I use WordPress Download Monitor plugin). This make it simple for web site user. For the wordpress user you have two copies of PDF and that is a bit confusing to novice WordPress user (correct me if there is better plugin combination)
