I loved this. It was exactly what I wanted. Sadly, it hasn’t been updated to be compatible with recent updates to WP and nobody from the development team appears ever to respond to the free support forum. The Plugin’s own website appears to be inaccessible (so I can’t contact them), suggesting to me that this is not going to be updated. I’d be happy to be corrected, but the plugin’s failures to hide certain menu options on my sites mean I am now having to completely re-think how to approach this. My advice would be not to install (free or pro).

“If Menu” plugin was great in the past, but i bought add-on “More Visibility Rules” for using RCP membership levels, which one doesn’t work due to obsolescent code… I can confirm that because i fix it after several hours of work…

The plugin recognizes tablets as mobile.
Devices like
-nest hub
-surface duo, surface pro 7
-ipad mini, air, pro…etc
are recognized as mobile and this causes error in my menus where I want “Every device with window width/height > 480 to NOT be considered as MOBILE“.

I would have rated this 3-4 stars because although it’s basic, it did the job well enough. Unfortunately it seems to have stopped working, possibly since the latest WordPress updates. The plugin hasn’t been kept up to date either. So can’t rate this any higher that 1 star for now. It’s the only plugin of its kind (it seems), so I hope it gets an update.

Has the plugin been abandoned? No updates in 8 months and no responses to support here. I think a recent WordPress update may have broken it. I now see a green eye icon above a menu item. There are other free plugins that do the same job, such as ‘User Menus’ from Code Atlantic.

For the people who do not know what “phone home” means, it means that this plugin sends information about your site to themselves without your permission.
EDIT: I am editing this review to provide more information in light of the questions asked below.
/wp-content/plugins/if-menu/if-menu.php:334 makes a call to https://layered.market/get-plan?site=[redacted]&for=if-menu&_nonce=[redacted]&licenseKey= to check for a license key – something that should not be happening for a free plugin in the repo. This allows the author to see which sites are using the free plugin and for how long, without asking.
It is possible to monitor and block external calls made via the WP API. Some plugins allow domain-specific blocking. I highly recommend installing one on a test site to monitor calls made by plugins before installing it on a production site – and to consider blocking if you are concerned about the privacy of your own or client sites and cannot find an alternative to a naughty plugin.

The IP databases ARE FREE, this plugin is using free IP databases to do an IF statement an on Ip and CHARGE you a subscription.

I bought the Premium Version of the Plugin. On the same day, I recognized that the Plugin just integrates a very specific Groups-Plugin, but not Groups in general (which I think was kind of misleading in their marketing). I immediately wrote a message through the support form on their page and asked if they could send me a refund because I thought that the Plugin was doing something different than it actually does.
I never got an answer. I tried it again, but nothing. That is not the priority support they say it is. Sad. The idea is great.
