Works in WP 4 and better than the other newer plugins I tried. Having the avatars cached locally speeds up the site and means no more missing avatars for privacy filter users.

If gravatar server in gone, or may be you have no connection, you CAN NOT
enter to dashboard!

2. destroy any avatars icons here: /wp-admin/options-discussion.php and tring to caching it, but 404.
