Hello. I enter the api, user id, bookshelf & my goodreads profile is public. However it shows that I’m not currently reading anything, but I have 2 books on my shelf. And it does the same with other shelves too. How do I fix this?
My goodreads profile:

Thank you,
Justina
I can not use widgets in my site, is not possible to have a shortcode instead?
regards
]]>Version 1.5.5 of this plugin will not function with PHP 7.3 or later due to a compatibility program in the version of Simple HTML Dom included (v1.5 is included but v1.8.1 or later is need to work with PHP 7.3).
Until the author updates the plugin, you can fix the issue by grabbing version 1.8.1 of the simple_html_dom.php file from source forge and replacing the one in the plugin directory.
]]>Hi,
After many years of using this plugin successfully I am suddenly getting “not currently reading anything”. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling the plugin, resetting my API key, changing the book in my “currently reading” shelf and trying another user’s ID but to no avail.
Here is a link to my public feed: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/5636082.xml?key=%5BKEY_HIDDEN%5D&v=2&shelf=currently-reading
Any idea what might be going on here?

]]>Good afternoon,
The host of this WordPress site recently changed to a new server, and we are trying to rule out if the current error I am experiencing is isolated to that server, or related to settings on my part.
Since the server migration, any widgets after and including the gr progress widget will not load (or appear) in the respective sidebar it has been allocated to, once I add the user ID and API key into the settings of gr progress. If no information is added into the gr progress widget, it will load saying “widget not configured correctly.” My website is https://gallup4sowk.ucalgaryblogs.ca.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

The plugin works well apart from one problem:
The book cover is missing for about half of the books. (Goodreads has the book covers so that’s not the problem.)
Where the book cover should be, there is a white square with an icon in the top left and the words “book cover”.
Any ideas for how to solve this?
Thanks!
]]>Hi – does this plugin display random books from Goodreads? Either from selected or all shelves? (And if not, are there plugins that do?)
Thanks!
]]>Hello,
would it be possible to cache the goodreads asset on the server so the end user doesn’t need to connect to a different webserver?
That would make it easier to comply with the gdpr.
edit: just before pressing submit I saw the other post about this topic.
Also related to the other post: No, it’s not illegal to use CDN but you need to make a data protection agreement and name it in your privacy policy.
Would it be possible to make the images optional although that would remove much of the great design and look?
thanks in advance,
caemor
Hi,
I have the “Error retrieving data from Goodreads” problem. My goodreads account is
https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/49385119-andzhelika .
I tried with different API keys, but still doesn’t work. The bookshelf is currently-reading.
I used this plugin about a year ago and then it worked but now it doesn’t.
Thenk You!
]]>Hello! I installed the plugin but I can’t activate because is giving me the ERROR
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class simple_html_dom_node in /home/fpfegexn/public_html/wp-content/plugins/gr-progress/includes/simple_html_dom.php on line 114
Anyone knows how to solve it?
Best regards,
Irina
]]>Hi Chris,
Your plugin is very good and I like it, except for the fact that it is slowing down my website as the displayed images are not scaled, as the image dimensions are adjusted by CSS script (4 book covers it needs 165 Kb download). Thereby lowering my Gtmetrix score from 97 to 83 points. Caching does not solve the problem, I have tested it ??
Is there any option to fix this ‘problem’? For example by replacing the imported Goodread image urls by some thumbnail urls which Goodsreads offer themselves via profile –> account settings –> widgets (create your own HTML widget).
I am looking forward hearing from you.
Thanks and regards,
Bark
Hi, I would like to help translate the plugin into Arabic but the plugin isn’t translation ready. https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/80334/how-to-make-a-wordpress-plugin-translation-ready
]]>I’m using the ‘small’ image size setting, but the images are coming out quite large in the sidebar which is shoving a lot of the content out of bounds. I’ve tried removing and re-adding the plugin several times.
Images appear fine on Android in the Chrome browser, but look huge on my Mac Chrome browser as well as safari, but looks fine in Firefox.
I’ve tried writing a few css overrides for a max width to match my theme, but nothing I do seems to affect anything. Any help is appreciated!
]]>Hi cmeeren,
Awesome plug-in. Thanks.
I’m trying to set up a page with both my wife’s and my own GR shelves (from different GR accounts). I’m also using the “Widgets for Shortcodes” plugin to insert your GR plugin onto a page, rather than a sidebar.
My problem is that, despite using different shortcode IDs from separate GR Progress widgets for our individual shelves, both within the “Widgets for Shortcodes” plugin within the Widget menu, within a minute or two of publishing the page will inevitably show the same shelf twice (either two of hers or two of mine). Immediately after publishing it typically shows correctly, but then it is as if the cache or something confuses and it ends up showing one or the other shelf twice.
Thanks for your help.
Jason
Can I display my bookshelf in a horizontal instead of vertical layout?
]]>Hi,
concerning the new privacy laws in germany and europe, each place including data from a server that is not the websites server, is disobaing the law.
So since the covers are only referenced by url, the ip addres of the client is sent to goodreads servers to request the image. To solve this problem, could you add a Option to also sync the covers as media to the website itself? Then there would only be server to server communicaion and not client to external server.
Thx for the great Plugin by the way.
]]>Hi, I love the plug in but having trouble with the image size of the book covers. I have the cover image size set at small, but only one of my list is showing small and all the others are large.
]]>I’m having issues with this plugin in that I want to show two different shelves on the linked page. I want to show my currently reading page as well as recent entries on my read shelf. AT the moment the first book on the read list (the second list on the page) is showing up as the same book as my currently reading entry. I’ve checked the source shelves on the goodreads website and I’ve consistently found the currently reading book is not also listed on the read shelf. Please can you help fix this issue.
Additionally, I’m finding no difference in the size of the images shown for book covers whether I click small or large covers.
Thanks!
]]>Is there any way to show just a vertical list of titles (and maybe authors) from a GR shelf (read and/or reading), with no cover images? Many of the books in those shelves show without the proper cover, so I’d like just to have the bare list in the widget.
Thanks
I had a problem with this plugin working on my website. I contacted the author and he helped as much as he could, but we could not find a resolution. The plugin would just not work.
I really liked this plugin so, I decided that I would change who was hosting my website and see if that would resolve the problem and it did. This plugin for me at least works on Bluehost. So if you are having issues with the plugin working you may want to contact your hosting company.
cmeeren, I will update my review. Thanks for all your help – Diane
]]>My GR Progress widget stopped working yesterday. I first checked all the widget settings. They were correct and the same as they had been while it was working. I then removed the widget from my sidebar, put it back, reentered the settings. Still didn’t work. So I tried deactivating, deleting, reinstalling, reactivating, etc. Still not working. I’m getting:
Error retrieving data from Goodreads. Retrying in 60 minutes.
My GoodReads user id: 62682092
My GoodReads api key: natY8kVbjqO7nQdX153aMQ
My GoodReads profile is public.
I read various support tickets but I get the same error.

]]>Hi, I keep receiving the below error after just installing this plugin

]]>I just came across this plugin this evening, it seems very well made and almost does exactly what I’d like to achieve. I wondered if there was any possibility of adding a short code to use this functionality outside of a widget?
I have a Now page which outlines some things I’m doing this year and I’d like to include my Goodreads currently reading books on it within the main content of the page. Is this something you’d consider adding?
]]>I’ve installed the profile, adding an API key and author code but the list of books showing seems to be someone else’s. I’ve removed and re-added, added the plugin more than once and can repro 100%.
Plugin version is 1.4.1
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
Nick
]]>Hi! I’m hoping this question is fairly simple, but here goes: The image size options are better and thumbnail generation is much more reliable on this plugin then any other or Goodread’s native html “widget,” but I’d really like to have multiple columns a la Goodread’s own “Grid Widget.” Is there some modification to CSS or my theme functions.php I could add to allow for a grid/multiple columns? Thanks!
]]>When I select “Display the first line of your Goodreads review for each book”, the entire review is displayed rather than just the first line. I expected just the first sentence or maybe the first X characters.
Great plug-in by the way, love it!
]]>My wife is super excited to put your plugin on her blog. Thank you for taking the time to make it. I’ll drop a donation in the box when I can. However we are having a touch or trouble getting it to show books. After install and setting up the UserID and API Key, the sidebar simply shows the widget title, goodreads attribute, and then “Not Currently Reading Anything.”
I have tried changing to different shelves including “read” and “to-read” but both give the same output. I also checked to make sure her profile was public – https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/17079305?shelf=currently-reading. And that there were books on each shelf.
Do you have any other suggestions?
