One of the best plugins I’ve purchased for my site! I’ve used Glossary for more than just word definition popups. I also use it for a few other less glossary-like functions, like automatic pillar content post linking.
This, in addition to WPMU’s hosting and their pro plugins has given me a 100 pagespeed score on desktop, 90+ on mobile. Keep up the great work!

TThis plugin has so many complexities for normal use in the free version. In fact, every logical requirement for a plugin requires you to purchase a paid version. Some cosmetic methods cannot solve the problem with displaying tooltips on site pages. The plugin embeds hints into all elements in the selected category and there is no free method to stop or block this. For example, tips appear under an article in a block with links to neighboring articles, thereby breaking the site design. The hints themselves overlap with elements of neighboring blocks. The plugin does not respond to settings for the length of the displayed tooltip. There is a bug/feature where the page with all the terms uses the title of the very first term… Good idea, strange implementation, probably due to the emphasis on monetization.

It’s easy to use and very functional for language learning blogs

I used WPImport with Glossary plugin to import my definitions. Note that if you have web framework like DIVI or may other plugins glossary rendering of outputs you may not get expected results. The usual conflicts…

I live tested all the “Glossary” plugins that I could find on WordPress. This one came out the best. I then purchased the Pro version. A request for support was answered within the day. No complaints. Highly recommended.

The free version itself is great. Have been using for over 2 years now and never an issue.

Really like this. One tip to prevent every instance of a term on a page from being tool-tipped is to create the glossary entry itself in quotes like “my entry”.
That way, you can use the term in quotes the first time you use it on a page or post, and you get the tooltip, and every time after that you use it without quotes.

Glossary was easy to set up. The crosslinking function is an awesome way to extend a site’s SEO — especially with Google’s search engine algorithms increasingly favoring text that defines a search term.

Plugin works perfectly and support is excellent, very recommended if you want to build a Glossary in your website.

I’m (currently) not using the tooltip function, but as a List of terms, this plugin does exactly what i need and is customizable.

The author responded quickly but did not offer any help.
I sent the author images of the differences between what I was seeing and his instructions and this was his response.
“I don’t know what are the differences are you seeing as this free support is not advanced, only with the premium version in the premium support platform we investigate further asking the administrator access and so on.”
So it seems like for the free version you do not get the instructions that match it.

Good communication is key to any successful activity. If you and I are talking face-to-face I can usually tell when I may have used a word that confused you. I would then backtrack and make sure I explained what I meant before we would continue our conversation.
Online we don’t have that immediate visual feedback or the ability to occasionally take a pause and explain something better to someone.
A simple way of to clear up confusion about terminology in written format is to have confusing words linked to a definition of the word. Essentially, a “glossary of terms” appended to your content (thank you High School Professional Writing class).
KEY REQUIREMENTS: It had to take as little of my time as possible to add new words to it and be super easy for myself and my readers to use.
Glossary for WordPress will auto-magically link words to a short description of that word, as long as the word is listed in my glossary.
I create glossary items and their descriptions just like any other article. The glossary item is the title of the article, the content is the description. Nothing new to learn, and the software does the linking automatically without any effort on my part.
No matter how many times I write about a topic and use a particular word, my website will now create a link for that glossary defined word whenever it is shown to the reader.
What’s not to like about that?

I’ve been using the Glossary plugin for a few weeks and am generally pleased with the functionality and the free support provided. The author(s) are honest about shortcomings inherent to replacing strings in raw HTML using regular expressions. It’s a difficult and challenging task which comes with tradeoffs. I encountered one of the tradeoffs, too deeply nested HTML objects which the regular expressions were not able to deal with so some of my content is not ‘glossaried’. I can work around that, however, by including the HTML manually but… it would have been nice. Anyway, hence the 4 stars but still a solid product otherwise.
The administrative user interface is a bit terse but, once you understand what the plugin is capable of, you’ll get your head around it.
In summary, Codeat, thanks for providing this plugin!

I was looking to add a ’seamless’ glossary plugin on my WP site, to provide readers with quick-and-dirty definitions for about 30 terms. My search was rewarded when I found the Glossary plugin by Codeat. Gave me the necessary options, yet was quick to install and configure. Since I expect to use this for at least a few years, I purchased the lifetime license.

We use this plugin a lot! It is very useful.

The free version of this plugin works though is very limited. The main limitations being no widgets like the alphabetical navigation and I never got to get the tooltips working. The reason I give it only three stars is because the whole process of purchasing the upgrade is cumbersome. At a certain point there is mentions a 14 day refund, with next underneath a checkbox that has to be checked to waive a 14 day EU cool-off period. What/why/why bother? Next, in order to download the pro version you need to enable site settings to allow downloads. While all this may be perfectly sound & legit. It feels like opening the door for who knows what. Compared to the 95% of other plugins that have a much more straightforward way of purchasing and upgrading, this process is horrible. Too bad as the plugin itself looked very promising.

I’ve been toying with Glossary since a few years now and have yet to come across an/y alternative. So far,
Codeat’s approach is without equal; well-thought out from the ground up, performant and strikingly easy to manage, in spite of all depth it has to offer. Add to its feature-richness and versatility (footnotes, anyone?) the enjoyably responsive support provided by Daniele & team and you have a more than solid choice for whatever it may be you want to build with automagically linked and organized key terms and definitions.
I was more than happy to contribute the German localization to help the plugin’s success along further and went for a life-time license at long last just as joyfully (now I’ve got a bit of time to play with my pet project some more).
If you haven’t already, take the free version out for a ride;
I’m confident you’ll be pleased.
Here’s to hoping this one will stay around for more years to come + get to win over plenty more well-deserved fans;
I know I’m one.
Auguri! ??

After a string error occurred, the plugin author stepped in promptly, and fixed it quickly. It is very nice to feel that type of immediate and effective support in a free plugin, so THANK YOU, Daniele, for sharing this with us. It is indeed a terrific plugin!

This plugin does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Any key term you add to the glossary automatically appears as a link to the glossary entry. The linked text from the main text stands out clearly as different from other ordinary links.
“Add new” lets you add a new page for each glossary entry.
Confusingly “Add New Glossary Term” adds a category not a term. This is very useful though, once you have worked that out.

I needed a simple hover tooltip for my news magazine without the bloat that some other plugins have and Glossary for WordPress filled that need. Easy, quick setup interface and works great on WP 5.7 and Typology theme. Thanks Codeat!

This plugin does exactly what it was built for and serves its purpose well. It is well worth upgrading to the professional or lifetime version!
I give it 5 stars! The developer is very responsive and the support is great.
My only negative comment (if I had to leave one) is that it is not a “native” Elementor plugin, but again, the developer was quick to provide fixes to shortcode limitations that arose out of Elementor functionality, not the plugin itself.
I cannot bring myself to ding this developer for limited Elementor integration because this truly is an awesome plugin and would clearly work with a stock WordPress install just fine!
