$title = str_replace('?', 'aa', $title);
$title = str_replace('?', 'aa', $title);
$title = str_replace('€', 'Eur', $title);
German Slugs ought to be pre-installed in German versions of WordPress
As long as that isn’t the case, German Slugs is the number one choice for those who care whether their German post titles can still be read after they’ve been converted into slugs.
Additional transliterations can easily be added when needed. The plugin’s structure is so simple, it’s hard to go wrong. If you want additional characters to be transliterated correctly, you just have to type one short line each within the plugin’s file lib.php.
The letters ?? and € are examples of characters that are still handled incorrectly by WordPress. The above code shows what needs to be added to lib.php to fix that.

Does what it says on the tin and didn’t break anything. A more general plugin covering more than just german diacriticals would be helpful but for german blogs this is just right.

this is the only german umlaut plugin that correctly removes the accents from non-german slugs in addition to correctly converting german umlauts.
So this plugin should be used especially for multilanguage sites when german and e.g. french languages are used simultaneously!
