WordFence is flagging this plugin as no longer safe to use:
Medium Severity Problems:
* The Plugin “Genesis Simple Footer Widgets” appears to be abandoned (updated 2019-01-04, tested to WP 5.0.11).
It would be great if you could update it or let us know whether we need to find an alternative.
]]>Since this plugin is no longer maintained, and Bill Erickson’s Disable Genesis Customizer Direct does not work for Genesis 3.0 or above, here is a simple workaround.
For the Genesis sample theme – I don’t know if it works for other themes.
In config/theme-supports.php
Change line 37:
‘genesis-footer-widgets’ => 3,
to
‘genesis-footer-widgets’ => 4,
Or 2 or 5 or 6. As you prefer.
Voila!
]]>Hello Joe,
In a previous post, you wrote you were about to release an update of this useful plugin, now supporting the Customizer.
Is it ready yet or should we still use Bill’s plugin?
Thanks!
]]>The latest Genesis update moved all settings to the customizer and there is not a way now to access footer widget settings. This is a great plugin, hoping an update is planned.
]]>Hi, I could really use some help.
Essence Pro doesn’t come with any footer widgets.
I have installed Genesis Simple Footer Widgets.
Works fine.
These three widgets are nicely placed.
Logo / SM Icons / Search Box
Except, it’s above two other elements at the bottom of the page.
How do I unregister the GSFW and reregister it below everything?
Thanks in advance.
]]>like the title says, widgets 2 & 3 do sit side by side but on top of each other. theme has 4 footer widget
Thanks

I noticed you updated the plugin. However, when I clicked on the “View version 1.2.1 details” which opened up the WP plugin page, there were no details.
Please note any changes you make to help inform us whether to update the plugin or not. This would help us know if we have to make any adjustments on our end.
]]>Hello,
I would like to use the plugin but receive the following error when trying to activate:
“Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /../wp-content/plugins/genesis-variable-footer-widgets/plugin.php on line 100”
I have also just updated to WordPress 4.7.1
Thanks!
]]>Hello Joe.
We are running Genesis Child on ricksmith.me.
Your plugin worked great on test environment but after we transferred the installation the plugin gave us an error.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in …/wp-content/plugins/genesis-variable-footer-widgets/plugin.php on line 1
which is <?php namespace JD_Genesis_Simple_Footer_Widgets;
Can you help us solve this one?
Tnx

]]>I was just trying out if I could add a fourth widget to the already available three widgets in the Decor theme. It is added as a fourth footer widget in the backend, but nothing to see in the front end.
I also have the Genesis Extender plugin active, but no custom adjustments made with that plugin to the footer widget area.
