Nick, This plugin is still working fine for me. Thanks for your great work. Wondering if you’d take the time to review it with WordPress 5.0+ and block editor and just see if everything still looks good to you. Then it will show a recent review rather than not having been updated for 3 years.
Hi.
I am using the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified widget in a sidebar on an event page created in the Timely All-in-one-events-calendar. The widget should be displaying an excerpt of a random post in the “Bucks Fizz Testimonial” category. However, before the excerpt it is displaying the content from the event that is on the main page.
I am sure this didn’t used to be an issue, but I couldn’t tell you how long it has been like this. This only seems to be an issue on the events pages – on standard posts and pages the widget appears to be working correctly.
Thanks for any help you can suggest.
Nick, thanks for all you’ve done over the years. This widget is really useful and I use it over the default Featured Post or Featured Page widgets.
Is there any way for links to the pages/posts to open in a new tab/window? I sometimes need to redirect the post to a different site but don’t want to loose my visitor.
How do I show a custom field in the Post Meta? What shortcode should I use?
I can get taxonomies to show just fine. e.g. [post_terms before=”Series: ” taxonomy=wpfc_sermon_series]
However there is a custom field of sermon_date. What is the shortcode to display that?
Hello,
this plugin allows me to show products instead of posts and it works gread. Just one thing is happening. The post title were h4 and now it changes to h2. How can I fix it? I hope someone can help,
Best Regards
The “Read More” button is being rendered even if the content limit hasn’t been reached.
Dear Support,
I am currently auditing my site and checking 3rd party compliance to the new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into effect in May 2018.
Since I am using your plugin, I have a couple of questions regarding this topic:
– Is Genesis Featured Widget Amplified setting cookies with personal information from visitors (like IP-address)?
– Is Genesis Featured Widget Amplified collecting, storing and/or sending personal information from visitors (IP-address, etc.) locally and/or externally?
In case that you are storing/sending and/or processing visitors’ information:
– Are the IP addresses only stored anonymously, i.e. without the last octet?
– What are you doing with the stored information?
– Do you share the data with 3rd parties? If yes, have you concluded appropriate contracts with the subcontractors that commit the subcontractors equally to data protection?
– When will the user data stored by you (in particular cookies) be deleted?
– Do you offer opt-out options for users (if yes, how are they implemented)?
– Can you provide us with a Data Processing Agreement including technical and organisational protection measures as well as an overview of the subcontractual relationships for signature?
In case you operate in the US and you are storing/sending and/or processing visitors’ information:
– Do you offer legally recognised guarantees for the level of data protection (e.g., EU Standard Contractual Clauses or Privacy Shield)?
Thanks in advance for your replay!
Best regards
Jose
Hey Nick and guys,
I had featured posts in my site footer by using the Genesis Featured Posts Amplified widget in the middle footer (footer 2) on studiopress digital pro theme at https://apeagency.com/
However as you can see in the picture attached, it keeps inserting all the myreviewplugin comparison tables and star ratings into this widget (between the title “featured posts” and above the 5 featured posts/thumbnails). This only happens on the home page not category pages.
The featured posts widget on home page displayed fine previously but over time and updating wordpress/genesis it seems to have developed this problem possibly from stray code.
Have updated WordPress and Genesis to latest versions and tried deleting/reinstalling many previous versions.
Have already tried contacting all themes/plugins for help and no luck, also re-inserted different widgets from scratch and put all the settings in again and same thing, it keeps inserting that extra junk and ratings that I don’t want to appear. Screenshot of what happens https://imgur.com/a/ub23F
Any help how I can fix and stop this from happening?
Hi there Nick,
I’ve been using your excellent plugin for a number of years on this site, but sometime around Christmas, the pagination stopped working on a couple of pages. As a temporary fix, I’ve switched one of the pages over so that the main nav now links to a category archive instead, but can’t do that with this particular page, as it displays posts from more than one category, hence my using GFWA in the first place.
I’d be very grateful if you could take a look ??

Julian
I’m still having the issues reported here under “Can’t select a CPT in dropdown”, namely that when I select my Custom Post Type and ask the plugin to filter on a Custom Taxonomy, everything else disappears in the Widget configuration menu.
I’m also having issues where my custom excerpt (generated by WP-Types) is no longer shown when I select Excerpt under Content Type. I imagine this is related to the reorganization you mentioned in some comments here.
Thanks for a great plugin – I hope I can help debug it! In the mean time, are versions older than 0.9 available to help get my site running again?
Great widget. One question: rather than getting multiple thumbnails in seperate rows, how can you get three in a row, for example?
I’ve tried to customize the Post Meta from this page: https://my.studiopress.com/documentation/snippets/post-meta-xhtml/customize-the-post-meta-function/
It’s not changing the markup for the plugin though. I simply just need to remove ‘Filed Under’ when displaying the category for Featured Posts in the widget. Can you advise on how I would do that?
EDIT: [post_categories before=””] solves this problem.
Thanks for your work on this! It was surprisingly hard to find a plugin like this for Genesis and SiteOrigin’s PageBuilder.
I’ve been using the widget on the home page for several months. In versions 0.9 and later, however, the social sharing buttons started to show under the post excerpts. This clutters the layout and I don’t want it. I’ve reverted to 0.8.2, so I unfortunately don’t have screenshots.
I realize this may be an issue I need to take up with the Super Socializer plugin, but I thought I’d check on whether you have any thoughts.
I’m trying to activate the plugin but receive a message that I need Genesis 1.9 or greater… but I have Genesis 2.5.3 !
My blog headers and the images on my Recipe Index page are showing up incorrectly after the recent update of the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified plugin. The widget is set up to show four images in each row, but instead it now shows one very blurry image in each row.
Following the update, the post headers on the home page are also showing up in an incorrect font and color and are underlined. It appears the plugin may have changed something about the CSS styling and it is not responding to the existing settings.
Please help.
Thanks!
With the latest update of Genesis Featured Widget Amplified, featured posts were not appearing properly. It messed up the layout of my blog.
I tried to tinker with the options, but nothing seemed to work. I tried to deactivate the plugin, but couldn’t reactivate it again. It said I needed Genesis 1.9 or higher, which is odd because I have the latest version. ??
Is this information still relevant or is it old info?
(from the plugin page)
While the plugin will work on the HTML5 “Pro” themes, the HTML markup only supports the older XHTML themes at this time. It is not recommended for use on the new HTML5 themes.
At least I’m pretty sure that’s the problem since this works on all of my sites except for the one with WP 4.9.1. The widget interface changes and you can’t even see, let alone select half of the options.
Hoping you intend to update it to work with WP 4.9……
Thank you for an amazing plugin!
Am interested to know if this plugin will be maintained?
Hi,
Thank you for trying to improve the Genesis Featured Post widget, it’s a great widget but you nailed its issues.
There’s on thing though it’s not clear to me: is it possible to sort posts by popularity with your plugin?
I think you maybe could make that a bit clearer, or available as I’m sure it’s a very popular sorting method -and exactly what I was looking for- ?
Fantastic plugin Nick – it has been a workhorse on my sites all these years. And thanks for doing an update yesterday. But two issues with the update:
1. the plugin has stopped reading the custom link field, so I can’t direct the title of “read more” to my custom field link.
2. the post meta field has stopped reading entered content in html and renders everything in text (see right column on www. artsjournal.com in the meta fields).
Sorry to bother you, but these are big issues for me.
Thanks
I can’t select anything other than ‘post’ in the Post Type dropdown – tried in a different test installation and same problem
I’m trying to modify Nick’s PHP slightly to pull some meta data from a custom post type plugin and display it just below the post title, using the before-content hook.
I’m basically trying to display the event meta data (date, venue and cost) from “The Events Calendar” plugin underneath the post title on my homepage. There is a class that calls out that event metadata, I just can’t figure out how to combine it with the before-content hook to achieve what I’m trying to do.
If someone on this forum might be able to assist me with a couple lines of PHP, I’d be most appreciative.
So I have had some issues since upgrading php 5.2=>5.3 earlier today. First I had a problem and got some good help in the thread below and figured out it was a theme problem.
In the process however, I deactivated all my plugins (to ensure it was the theme) and now I can’t reactivate one of them. It is the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified plugin. It says I require Genesis 1.8 or higher to activate. My theme setting say I am using version 2.2.5. So thats weird. Now I also know our theme is a child theme of Genesis and so I am very hesitant to try and update it. How Can I reactivate this plugin without having to mess with the theme at all?

Thanks in advance!
Hi.
I want my widget to show a category page instead of a blog post or a regular page. How do I do it?
Thank you!
fyi,
This error is appearing multiple times in my debug log:
[04-Oct-2016 02:14:41 UTC] PHP Notice: The called constructor method for WP_Widget in Genesis_Featured_Widget_Amplified is deprecated since version 4.3.0! Use
__construct()

I’m using GFWA on a staging site right now, and when I set one of the GFWA to show one category with 2 posts, it shows 2 posts just fine. As soon as I set an offset (I’ve tried both 1 and 2) for that widget, it shows 12 posts. Any ideas why?

There are two “Read More” links showing up under my blog post excerpts on my Home Page. I’m using the Pretty Creative theme, and I have the Featured Widget Ampified displaying excerpts of my 3 most recent blog posts on my home page. That’s where the duplicate “Read More” links are showing up.
I have used one
tag in each post, and it works fine on my blog page (truncating my post to just excerpts). It’s only on my Home Page where I’m using the widget to show my blog post excerpts that I’m getting the 2 “Read More” buttons under each excerpt.
Even when I go back and delete the
from my posts, I still get the duplicate links on the home page, but on my blog page the full posts show, instead of being truncated.

It turns out it is not possible to choose post type.
Every time we try yo open the select box, The widget auto saves it self and refreshes.
In order to solve this issue, we made some changes to the plugin:
A. on line widgets.php:874
change the class to our own class:
from:
$class = $args['save'] ? 'class="widget-control-save" ' : '';
to
$class = $args['save'] ? 'class="gfwa-widget-control-save" ' : '';
and for handling the saving widgets.php:1166
from:

to

Is it possible to get merge this changes in?
Thanks,
Koff
