I tried Gantry 5 and it destroyed my Site. I posted here just ONE Star. And then the Support of Gantry asked me, what happen, and with the help of the Gantry support, i installed a perfect Gantry Framework. It was just the change from PHP 5.4 to 5.6. Thats all.
Now it runs PERFECT! On the Google-Speed-Test-Page i got 95 Points from 100. So, im very happy with Gantry.

Well, the only reason I use this is because the RokSprocket plugin does not work without gantry.

This plugin changes the way your entire website works. NOTHING is standard and NOTHING follows the wordpress nomenclature. If you want to add other plugins, better get ready for hours upon hours of backbreaking php work. Oh, and don’t expect any sort of proper documentation.

There is none. For example, implementing something simple, such as featured-video-plus was a 15 hour task. There were about 50 bugs to hunt down, and quite a bit of guesswork on how to get it to work. It ended up with me manually checking about 50 undocumented gantry php objects to find one that I could than use to hack gantry and featured-video-plus to work together.

All in all, not a good experience. Especially because I don’t really use any of the out-of-the-box features. NOT THAT THERE ARE MANY, since the wast majority are locked behind a paywall. If you want all the fancy things to work, you need to pay for a proper rockettheme template.

Oh, also, don’t expect any support. There’s very limited amounts posted on the freeweb, and the rockettheme support forums are blocked behind a paywall as well.

Oh, also the gantry plugin+theme’s are about 500 php/css documents heavy. Come prepackaged with all sorts of bloat, like bootstrap. There’s tons of useless layout options, half of which i think don’t work. I mostly just ended up not using it. I’ve done everything by editing the gantry php and css files. Got fucking help me if it ever chooses to auto update.

So Seriously I’d avoid this like a plague, if I was not forced into using it because of roksprocket. This is not a product for the poweruser.

On the upside, it does work.

Wonderfull tool. If someone had some problems with it, little PHP and all is solved.
It has ok compatibility, and lots of features out of the box. Would recomend to anyoune. Cant wait for version 5.

The WordPress accessibility mode for widgets is not supported in this framework. If you require keyboard access to work w/widgets, don’t even waste your time w/this software. I find this very disappointing, as it seems to me it goes against everything that WordPress stands for in terms of equal access for all. Frankly, it’s rather like saying everyone is welcome to use our software freely, except, of course, if you can’t use the mouse effectively. How hard is it really to implement? WP has likely provided most if not all the code.

Gantry is a really powerful theme framework with the ability to build versatile page layouts using widget areas and overrides.

The framework is also highly extendable and adaptable for designers and developers.

I highly recommend staying away from this framework and coding your themes and plugins by hand. Gantry/Rocketthemes adds ~1.5 seconds of server side loading time to every site I have tested with. The UI does not follow WordPress standards and creates overly complex methods of customization. There are many other plugins that can be strung together to create all the same functionality that Gantry has, without all the excess bloat.

Gantry doesn′t work correctly with multsite. I′ve seen, that this is an old problem, so I give one star, because the developers doesn′t care less this basic problem.

I started using Gantry 2 years for developing Joomla themes and now the WordPress version of Gantry is equally impressive.
