When I place an image in a footnote, it is now showing the code underneath the image on the published page… Any help?
]]>Hi.
I’m managing a wordpress website where the Footnote extension is installed.
I’m considering to desactivate that extension, but I don’t know if the extension has been in use “for real” (I mean, it is possible that the extension was activated without beeing used).
Is there a way to find out if it has been actually used in some pages or articles ?
Perhaps, by a specific request in it’s database ?
Help welcome.

Re: This plugin has been closed as of November 14, 2022 and is not available for download. This closure is permanent. Reason: Author Request.
Looks like the author hasn’t been able to find help in development so the plugin will no longer be updated. *Devastated*; it’s such a crucial part of my site and it’s not working with a new plugin that I wanted to use.
I’ve searched for alternatives that use the same (( footnote )) shortcode; so that my site won’t be a fulltime job updating all the posts that currently rely on it (nearly all my posts have up to a hundred references), and haven’t had any luck finding anything as awesome as this plugin.
I do hope that the plugin can be resurrected; but if anyone finds an alternative, please let me know! ??
]]>I recently changed the default display to “Widget” area, but I also want it available at the “end of post”.. is there a shortcode or setting override where I can display the references in both places?
]]>Have been using footnotes since 2015. Met all my needs as a not very sophisticated user. I know it was just discontinued, but hoped to keep using. For some reason all of a sudden the footnotes in my posts are showing jQuery text instead of the footnotes on the mobile version of my site. I am and long have been using WPtouch Mobile Plugin for my mobile theme. Here is an example of what is showing on the mobile post instead of the footnote:
jQuery(‘#footnote_plugin_tooltip_4427_2_1’).tooltip({ tip: ‘#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_4427_2_1’, tipClass: ‘footnote_tooltip’, effect: ‘fade’, predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: ‘top right’, relative: true, offset: [10, 10], })
Any idea how to get rid of this?
Thanks in advance.

If you think this codes will help other users so please implement this codes in future updates.
Implementing the codes to the plugin files also will help me to not modify plugin files again when new updates are coming.
Thank you.
Hi all,
As you can see on the Plugin Directory listing, the last update for this Plugin was 12 months ago and the last code commits on the GitHub repo. were made last August.
@lolzim and I have been unable to contact @markcheret for many months, and as a result we are no longer working on the Plugin. As things currently stand, this Plugin is no longer under active development, and footnotes is abandoned.
What does this mean for footnotes users? Technically, nothing. The Plugin will continue to work just the same for everyone. Users can continue to post in the Support Forums with any issues they may be having, and may receive support from other members of the community.
However, as the Plugin is no longer being worked on, there will be no bug fixes or new features added. Whilst we do not currently know of any security issues with the Plugin, in the event that one is later discovered there will be no fixes provided. Users who continue to use the Plugin do so at their own risk (although this Plugin has always been provided with no warranty, so in some respects this has always been the case).
As @markcheret is the only person with access to the SVN repository, if anybody would like to take up development of the Plugin themselves they will have to fork it and publish their own version. The latest version of the codebase is available on GitHub here, or there is the branch for the incomplete major rewrite of the Plugin (along with an ongoing pull request and various Issues detailing our development plans).
For users who wish to replace this Plugin with another, there are numerous other such Plugins available on the WP Plugin Directory – we do not recommend any one in particular.
]]>Hi there,
Can you please guide me how to use this plugin with custom fields? Because there is no option and I wish to continue using your plugin and not change it, so let me know if it is possible with some fix.
I am using ACF.

]]>Hi. Is there any tweak to make it pop up by just ‘tap’ instead of ‘tap and hold’ in the mobile version?
Because tap and hold also opens the text selection toolbar on mobile. You know, the popup toolbar with options such as “copy, paste, cut, select all”. So, tap and hold is opening two pop up on mobile.
]]>Hi everyone,
My footnote plugin works perfectly, my only issue is in placing it.
I’m using Kadence pro blocks and for some blog, I’ve have an author box showing up with Kadence elements.
I would like the footnotes to appear below that author box rather than on top.
I tried using a shortcode box to place the footnote below, but it just shows references or /footnotesection as text and the usual footnote section still shows as normal.
Any tip would be appreaciated.
]]>Firstly, thanks for a great plugin. I tried so many that didn’t work before I found yours, which does work, so thank you.
My references show a border no matter if I choose YES / NO for the borders around table rows option.
If I chose no the border is the colour of my links. If I choose yes the border turns the same colour as my text.
I don’t want borders. Is there a way to somehow completely turn this off please?
The post I am referring to is still in draft. But I can provide images.

Hi,
This plugin is highly configurable and clean, thank you. Is there a way to export its settings (to be reused on another site) ? Thanks
Hello, just started using this plugin and appreciate the ease of use. However, is there a way to get links to open to a new tab rather than in the same window?
It’s quite problematic if the footnotes take my readers to a different website.
UPDATE: auto-resolved ??
If you have this issue, you can select the options as you would do with a regular link. It also works for the footnote.
Hi,
I’m not sure when this issue started (sometime in the last few months), but it seems that footnotes now conflicts in some way with GravityView. On pages where we use a GravityView shortcode (see linked page), some garbage text appears above our View:
,”filter”==n)return r[0]},removeHook:function(o,n,t,i){var r;null!=gform.hooks[o][n]&&(r=(r=gform.hooks[o][n]).filter(function(o,n,r){return!!(null!=i&&i!=o.tag||null!=t&&t!=o.priority)}),gform.hooks[o][n]=r)}});
…and a spurious footnote is created at the bottom of the page. I’m guessing something is triggering the “double parentheses” footnote rule. Is our only option to choose a different delimiter for footnotes, or is there a better solution?

Is it possible to have two separate footnote sections on the same page?
We would like to have descriptive footnotes and list of sources in separate footnote sections with possibly the other using arabic numbers and the other roman numbers.
For example Wikipedia does this with Notes and References:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finland#cite_note-11
Is this possible?
]]>Hi,
is there a way to underline the referrer in the text and the backlink symbol?
I already tried
.footnote_referrer {
text-decoration: underline;
}
for the referrer but this doesn’t work.
]]>I have 2 problems I can’t figure out.
First, when I hover over a footnote using a square window size, or mobile, it goes off the left side of the page (and off the screen), so the beginning is not visible. Is there a way to wrap footnotes so they stay completely visible? (Example in link provided, first paragraph, footnotes 2 and 3).
My second issue is, when viewing the page on mobile, and I tap the footnote, it goes to the “References” section at the bottom of the page. Now that I think about it, it’s actually the same functionality as the website, except there’s no way to ‘hover’ on mobile. Is there a way to disable this, so clicking on it doesn’t jump to references? Either make it do nothing, or just open the footnote?
Thanks.
The footnotes “+” sign is NOT opening up nor are the numbered footnotes when I click on them in windows. They work in Mac. Whats going on? Why isn’t the references + sign not open as well as the numbered footnotes not jumping down to the reference.
]]>Hi, footnotes is a great plugin with loads of options.
I’m wondering if there is a way to move the backlink symbol at the end of the footnote text?
]]>Hello,
I couldn’t find this information in the settings. I have a situation on mobile where the footnote number is wrapping to a new line, so it’s separating from the word it should be referencing. Does anyone know how to keep the number connected to the word so the entire word will wrap to a new line with the footnote? Thanks!
Hi there,
Just checked a post on my mobile (normally only view my site via a laptop) and noticed that it’s actually showing the code ((footnote)) in the actual post itself (rather than just in the references). It’s working fine on laptop, but when accessing via mobile, it displays all the links within the blog post itself. Does that make sense?
]]>Hi.
Is there a code snippet I can use to have Footnotes skip a certain page?
The “Password Reset” page of the eMembership plug in has a regex that has multiple (( and )) in it, and I can’t change these for the Footnotes plugin as it is used in hundreds of places throughout the website.

This is a WP 5.8 website with Elementor.
]]>Hi. Are there any chance to remove jQuery requirement from footnotes and use vanilla JS instead?
]]>I’m getting the WordPress “white screen of death” on a particularly long post with a lot of footnotes. I know that the footnotes plugin is the culprit since I test ran the post with all of the bracketed footnote tags removed, and it displayed fine. In another test post I edited the post to remove some content and it displays fine until I hit around 285 footnotes.
I’d like to know two things: one practical and the other theoretical.
First the practical: what can I do to get my post to display with all my 318 footnotes? (The total word count for the post with the footnotes is 25,290.)
Second, the theoretical: what is the maximum number of footnotes (or size of all footnotes) that wordpress can display under default PHP server limits? (I’ve defined my WP_MEMORY_LIMIT in my wp_config.php file as 128M.)
I’m sharing the raw text of my too-many-footnotes post at my dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h90sz2ruzqrb1fw/too_many_footnotes-post.txt?dl=1
(If you’re able to troubleshoot, note that in the text linked above I use [foot][/foot] to define footnotes using the footnotes plugin.)
I run some other plugins on my site which add code to pages but haven’t seen this problem crop up for a while. It’s only ever been a problem for long posts on my site.
]]>Hello, how can I remove horizontal lines that separate each entry in the footnotes? Thank you!
]]>Thank you for your work. This is a truly complete set for automating footnotes.
Could you consider adding a “bulletproof” non-breaking space before footnotes indexes? We all know that this is poorly implemented in WordPress: adding an unbreakable space almost always ends in surprises. At the same time, the rules of typography require this.
Thanks again!
