This plugin was the simplest one I have seen, not even providing a “Settings” panel. Rather cryptically telling you to look in the CSS folder. Newbies would not know where the Author was referring to.
Nevertheless, since I am not a newbie I knew to click the Edit Link in the installed plugin itself, or go to the Appearance menu and choose Editor and then select the “Fixed Width Admin” plugin and then drill down to the CSS file.
Or, keep the file in your FTP tool and edit it in a Text editor or Dreamweaver as I do.
Using Firefox Firebug to see the applied rules to all page elements (divs, inputs, links, etc) in the WP Admin screens I could overwrite everything I wanted to change by modifying the style definitions in the “Fixed Width Admin” CSS file instead of in the WP core CSS.
So, very cool. This Plugin allows you, if you “understand” CSS, to do FAR MORE than merely change the Admin Page Width to a static pixel value!
Column widths, colors, extraneous displays, etc, etc can all be changed dramatically by dropping modifications into this Plugin’s CSS file.
Nice!
