For some reason, the plugin recently stopped getting the featured image in certain kinds of posts (in this case, events created with the pluging All-in-One Event Calendar by Time.ly).
In some cases, it gets some random image it found on the page (gallery update, sidebar image, or whatever), and in those cases, I can just edit it and change for whatever image I want. But in others, Facebook won’t recognize any image, so I can’t even change that and the post has no thumbnail whatsoever.
I debugged it [https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=http%3A%2F%2Fstanakaticbrasil.com%2Fevent%2Fcastle-3-12-poof-youre-dead%2F] and it says:

Warnings That Should Be Fixed
Inferred Property – The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

Likely, this was caused by the data being ordered in an unexpected way, multiple values being given for a property only expecting a single value, or property values for a given property being mismatched. Shouldn’t the plugin create the og:image, specially since the post has a feature image (640px x 300px, btw)?
I tried adding the very same image to the body of the post as well. That did fix the thumbnail issue with Facebook (I just went back to the page and deleted the image right after FB recognized it as a thumbnail). But got these errors on the debug page:

It says nothing about the image tag, but for some reason, it’s reading the page url twice?
Any clue as to what might be the issue?

I disabled the plugin because it repeated an image 6 times above the header on a post.

Hi, I just installed your plugin on my site, https://lucypick.com/ and it fixed some problems I was having, but I still can’t seem to pull up a thumbnail. I ran the following page in the Facebook debugger: https://lucypick.com/2014/02/22/whence-inspiration/ and I got the message: Provided og:image is not big enough. Please use an image that’s at least 200×200 px. Image ‘https://0.gravatar.com/avatar/a920afc3ddc928b65d1f1af802b078b0?s=44&d=http%3A%2F%2F0.gravatar.com%2Favatar%2Fad516503a11cd5ca435acc9bb6523536%3Fs%3D44&r=G’ will be used instead.

But the image I am using is 300×281 as the debugger itself identities under the Meta tag: <meta property=”og:image” content=”https://lucypick.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/CalixtoIIhdr-copia-300×281.jpg&#8221; />

Hi, just installed the plugin today and it works most of the time. But sometimes there are exceptions. It seems that all the YouTube videos shared on my site (brainloadr.com) shop up fine in the Facebook share feature. But for Vimeo, sometimes it works (e.g. https://brainloadr.com/the-runners/) and sometimes it doesn’t (e.g. https://brainloadr.com/the-great-abyss-creativity/). In the example that does not work, the title of the post is picked up, but the snippet text is the ‘About’ text and no preview/thumbnail shows up in the share box. When submitted, no video is embedded into the Facebook wall.

Any ideas?

first: thanks a lot for sharing your plugin for free! but it doesn’t work correctyl anymore:

If i share a youtube or vimeo video post of my blog on facebook, it doesn’t get played inline in the facebook stream.

it is reconned as a video with a play symbol overlay over the thumb, but when i click the play symbol, my blogpost is opened in a new tab instead of the video being played back.

any idea what’s the problem here?

i tried a lot of tweaks on your plugin code, so that the og meta tags are similar to the ones youtube uses, but i didn’t manage to make it work again. the things i tried:

– change the og:video content to https://www.youtube.com/v/s3D9oCH4zsc?autohide=1&version=3.
– added og:type content video.
– added

<meta property="og:video:type" content="application/x-shockwave-flash">
<meta property="og:video:width" content="640">
<meta property="og:video:height" content="480">

Really like your plugin so far, it get’s the job done. Except for one thing I’d change:
The YouTube thumbnails (unlike vimeo thumbnails) are really low quality because the plugin is fetching the default.jpg of a video url and not a higher quality option like hqdefault.jpg.

So I’ve modified line 156 in facebook-and-digg-thumbnail-generator.php:

if ($yt_id) {
	$image = "https://i4.ytimg.com/vi/$yt_id/hqdefault.jpg";
	$meta_imgs[] = $image;
}

Other available options would be: mqdefault, sddefault or maxresdefault.

It would be a great addition to the plugin if this would find its way into the options! But I wanted to share this anyways.

Hi Fedmich!

For some reason (even before I installed this plugin) I was able to get the correct thumbnails to show up on Facebook… BUT only when I had a single picture in a post.

My issue is with posts that have multiple images (examples below). I do get some images to show up… but usually, none are the Featured Image that I’ve set in my post:

We were noticing that when we included links to YouTube videos in posts that a bunch of garbage was showing up in the header of the site where this plugin inserts its <meta/> tags. I tracked it down to what appears to have been an overly greedy regex. For example, when adding a link like this to a post:

Pepsi MAX & Jeff Gordon

The regex that was supposed to just be grabbing the video ID was instead grabbing “Q5mHPo2yDG8″>Pepsi MAX & Jeff Gordon”. The following patch seems to fix this:

I am confused, I installed the plugin and it worked perfectly. I was previously using another app to auto embed my YouTube videos (Smart Youtube PRO) and everything came through perfectly, thumbnails, og:video … everything.

I disabled that app and am using a short-code to generate my iFrame embed code along with some video stats. My embed still works and the actual iFrame code looks the same as when the app did it but now your app has stopped including thumbnails or video links. What am I doing wrong in my embed? is there data that I’m not including that your app is looking for? The site isn’t live but I have it running on a secondary site for debugging (https://robertsheriff.com/dojcwp/?page_id=18) – not sure what I’m doing wrong or what I need to add to my shortcode to make this app work

Are you aware of any issues with Genesis child themes? For a long time, I’ve had issues with this plugin for YouTube links. It mangles the header of my blog post by placing portions of the blog post in the header.

I am having the same issue. My thumbnail options all of a sudden dropped from 15 to 3 on FB recently, and this has happened before, … but they don’t seem to be coming back at all.

So, I installed you plugin, but am not having any luck getting new thumbnail options.

Thanks for such a nice plugin it helped me alot . I have a problem. After Installing this plugin when I post a video from my blog to faceboook then video itself if playable on facebook and the viewers dont have any need to come to my website , I want to change this behaviour . First of all, excellent plugin. It solved several bugs I was facing with my Facebook post but the main one I was looking for, NO.

My website has a lot of YouTube videos and my posts to my Facebook Fan Page doesn′t have the correct thumbnail.

Hold on…a thumbnail appeared. Weird. When I first did it…no thumbnail. When I did it again 15-20 minutes later…a thumbnail. Do you know why there’s a lag? Anyway, would you suggest I still use an open graph plugin. Still not sure what the heck it’s for. Thanks.

This isn’t working. I copied/pasted url of post into FB “What’s on your mind?” box…no thumbnail of youtube video appears. Please help.
