I have been using the “Enlighter – Customizable Syntax Highlighter” plugin for an extended period, and it has consistently impressed me with its functionality and user-friendliness.
Moreover, the real game-changer for us was the ability to develop an extension of the plugin called “Enlighter – Extension With Run Button.” This extension added a unique and invaluable feature to our code blocks – a “Run” button. Now, not only can we showcase our code snippets beautifully, but we can also execute them directly on our website, making it an incredibly powerful tool for educational purposes and demonstrations.

This is an excellent code highlighter, which allows full blocks of code or inline code snippets to be highlighted. It works well with the WordPress Ennova theme up to PHP 7.4.
My only minor complaint is that there doesn’t seem to be any way of setting the default language (e.g. Python) to be highlighted, so that every time some code is inserted or an inline snippet is selected, the language must be selected again from a drop-down menu. Since I’d imagine most users would work in the same language for a while, a default setting would be very useful.
Other than that, I would recommend it highly.

Works very well with bbPress and looks to be an excellent highlighter in general.
I’m a longtime user of syntaxhighlighter evolved (which doesn’t work with bbPress from what I’ve seen), and am pleasantly surprised by the versatility of this plugin, I’m a convert now!

I’ve been looking for a good snippet plugin for some time. thanks a lot.
It just misses the ability to limit the number of lines displayed.
This is my workaround.
In Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS
Add those lines

Crayon seems to no longer work so I switched to this plugin. Super-easy to use and fully featured – no problems so far. Will have to get my a-into-g at some stage and have a look at creating a “theme”? for Visual Basic for Applications (using VB for now).

This plugin and its author are excellent. It is even compatible with almost all WordPress editors including WPBakery Page Builder. Lot’s of relevant useful functionality and it handles all manner of code syntax from generic highlighting to C++. All major code groups are covered and highlight with a slick look and little effort. Thanks, I will be donating soon and am writing up a very favorable review of the plugin on my site.

The Plugin offers all the features to share and organize code, snippets. Lightweight plugin and If i remember, this is the only plugin that doesn’t mess those codes after the deactivation.
One can trust this plugin and can use forever without worrying about the code change.

This is the first plugin that supports the latest version of BBPress which is fundamental to me. Support is really good too.
I have some issues using some of the themes but this is most likely conflicts with styling in BBPress and it taking precedence.

Brilliant piece of work. You can copy/paste whole external page with plenty of code snippets and paragraphs between. And plugin together with Gutenberg detect all of them and arrange all in Post for you.
I am using it for my own, private, localhost database of WP, and other, snippets, tutorials, tips, tweaks, help.
No need for lousy PressThis anymore. And Crayon Syntax Highlighter was also lousy for this work.

So easy to set up and use! The Codegroup option makes it a snap to neatly organize blocks of related code on the page.

The plugin works as expected and it’s easy to use and configure. The support on Github, quick and efficient.
Be careful if you use Divi builder to design frontend pages, because the css from the builder will override the enlighter css and the styles won’t be right. But this is, in my opinion, a problem of the divi builder.

I’ve used a number of syntax highlighters over the years, and never found one I was happy with. They either choked on some code, breaking the display of the output, corrupted what was saved via the Visual Editor, or required their own shortcodes, making them less future-proof.
Enlighter works from the Visual Editor, uses <pre> and <code> tags with classes that make it future-proof, and hasn’t even stumbled on any code I’ve used in it. The developer is very responsive and is actively supporting the plugin.
I was a little wary at first, because Enlighter is currently using MooTools instead of jQuery, and I didn’t like the idea of loading another javascript library when WordPress already loads jQuery, but apparently the developer is planning on switching to jQuery in an upcoming version of Enlighter, so my only reservation will be gone.
If you need a code syntax highlighter for WordPress, there’s no point in looking any further. Enlighter is the best.

I’ve just been trying the Beta of WP 5.0 with the Gutenberg block version of Enlighter. Enlighter is fantastic in Gutenberg!
