Great idea; unfortunately, completely unusable with the current version of Easy Digital Downloads.
An alternative is available for the current version of Easy Digital Downloads (directly from the developer of EDD); unfortunately, it is payware (affordable payware, but still payware).

Love the plugin idea however not supported on the latest EDD release which is a shame, would love to see this as a paid addon and well supported. Maybe it will take a new life in the future.

No files delivered, CSS changes everything including removal of DOWNLOADS button. Two days waiting for response from dev and still nothing. I’d be happy to make a contribution or buy this…if it worked.

The extension removes the graphic purchase button and makes it a simple link.
Also, for me it did not work when purchase shortcode is used and put into a draft post – the download link takes off to a random page.
I suspect it’s due to code-misalignment. Edd has gone through several updates since this plugin was last updated.
Hope the author addresses it soon.

I had previously used an earlier version of the plugin, and it worked well, except that it didn’t restrict downloads even though the settings had the limit set to 1.
I now have the latest version, 0.2.0, but it seems to not allow any downloads, is anyone else having this problem? My EDD version is 1.7.2, but as I test new registrations logging in to get their first download, they get the error message “download limit met,” even though it’s the first attempt.

This morning I updated the plugin and my ‘freebie’ buttons disappeared – I posted the issue in the support section and they took action immediately! The issue has been resolved and everything is working GREAT!
I LOVE this plugin! There is nothing more I hate than going to a website and wanting to download a freebie but having to sign up and complete a freaking checkout process, what a waste of time!
This plug in is perfect!! I can have the best of both worlds. As a customer, I can get the file quickly without the hassle of a checkout process and as a vendor, I can keep track of how many people have downloaded the file. GENIUS!!!

Would be awesome to have the choice of having download require login or not on per product basis so you could have free downloads for members and free downloads for non members.

This is a great extension for EDD. Worked right “out of the box” without any changes to the settings. Allows me to setup a download for $0.00 and by-passes the checkout process. Just what I was looking for!
