I have used Disqus for nine years to add comment functionality to my newsblog. Today they suddenly added LOTS of spam ads above and below their comment fields. I mean a screenful of them. Making my serious webpage look like the worst click-hunter ones. That’s it, I am removing Disqus.

Seems like someone actually put some effort into this plugin.
Comment syncing now actually works, and the UI touchup is appreciated.

The Disqus Comment System plugin wouldn’t load anything on my website scispiracy.com and I tried everything possible. I came here to see if people were having issues like mine and I see that there’s no support from Disqus. I used this plugin a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. But now it just doesn’t work. If there is any support for this plugin, I surely would appreciate it.

Sync comments does not work

This is an horrible plugin. It’s extremely heavy and makes your site very slow. It also put unwanted ads on your website and Disqus ask you to pay them to remove the ads. Despite what they claim, it isn’t AMP Compatible, you need to create domains and tweak the code to make it AMP Compatible when they could just make it compatible right away.
Disqus only care about making money. That plugin has been abandoned for 2 years and is completely crap.

Does sync comments to Disqus, does not sync Disqus comments back. Comment attribution broken once disabled and re-enabled. Broken in the backend with non-debuggable HTTP 500 errors without any UI notification about them.
Trash if it’s free.
Scam if they charge you $132 (or more) a year for it.
Avoid. Avoid at all cost.

In my website, i receive less and less comments because my readers have to go through a 1km of disqus ads to get to the comments, if only the mandatory comments were below the comments and not on top

N?o recomendo!

If they are forcing ads, they need to monitor these. They’re always inappropriate and spammy, and often disgusting.

The strategy of showing spammy +18 ads in our websites is too bad.
I was using the plugin since 2017 and it was good, no spammy ads until my website has a good number of visits. Disqus start showing ads. I know it’s the free version of disqus and its written in your policies and term of use. But i think it’s a bad idea, and you gonna lose a lot of users. Good Bye Disqus

First of all I would like to say ‘hats down guys’, because you have absolutely KILLED what was once a very decent plugin.
This is a warning for anyone who’s even thinking about switching to this trashy spammy plugin. Not only your comment box will start showing spammy adverts on the top as well as the bottom, but it will be very unlikely that you will ever get your comments back.
Disqus will basically steal all your comments.
Probably like many others, I have let Disqus to run in a background pretty much on autopilot for several years until someone pointed out the spammy ads around the comment box.
Then I realised that Disqus have changed their pricing model and unless you now pay a monthly subscription, your posts will be showing cheap and spammy ads that are absolutely irrelevant to the content.
The ‘Sync’ feature is an absolute joke, and to top this up, I realised that you can only sync comments no older than 12 months. Ridiculous, isn’t it?
So what happens to the rest? What happens to the comments that are older than 12 months and cannot be synced back to WordPress? Unfortunately these are held on your Disqus account by these ‘comment thieves’, and there is absolutely no way to get them back.
It just makes me even question the legality of this plugin.
So in order to try and see what are my options and get some basic support, I had to temporarily sign up for a paid subscription. Support is absolutely useless (awesome job you’re doing there Ryan!) – useless! Takes 4 days on average to have a question answered, and the result?? Cannot help you. Unbelievable!
I understand you guys want to make money somehow, but what you’re doing stinks!
This plugin should no longer be listed on WordPress depository! It’s just a scam.

this plugin is great as a commenting system. However, it displays too many ads which is acceptable because it is free plugin. What I do not like is that they hijack your affiliate links and use their own links without you noticing anything. go to google analytic and type in on event type viglink and see how much links are there most of these viglink are affiliate for disqus.
Right after I discovered this, I google it and there are many articels talking about these things and how can they have made too much money by inserting affiliate links using your audience to make money and probably stealing your own affiliate liknks.
TOO BAD I DO NOT RECOMMEND USINGING IT AT ALL.

I have used this plugin for over 6 years. With no ads. Great system.
After I migrated to a new server, all of a sudden I get ads. Now if the ads were good, I wouldn’t mind too much. But the ads are all low quality and scammy.
To upgrade to $11 per month is not worth it if you only get a few comments per month.
When I decided to use WordPress native system, I noticed not all my comments are in my database. Then to realize disqus sneakily disabled importing comments.
I had comments up to 2018, and discus only allows you to import the comments from the last year. Leaving me with 2 years of no comments.
While yes they have an export system, it is pointless as you can not use it.
If they allowed you to import all your comments, then I would not give a 1 star review. They chose to skrew you over, as they can import comments beyond 1 year ago, as you can list the reviews regardless. So it’s just a tactic they use to force you to use their system.
Glad I’m no longer using this.

Too many ads and pricing is only for companies.
Prices not reasonable

The displayed advertising is really bad and extremely huge. You are supposed to pay $11/month to not see ads, which as I said are extremely large and contain only clickbait.

they fixed the bug, works now.

In the last version there is a bug. The $DISQUSVERSION
argument is set to 3.0.19, but the real version is 3.0.20. These kind of bugs can’t be allowed… Didn’t the developers tested the new version?

Hello,
I was discuq on one of my site for some time so I decided to use it on my other site too. I installed the plugin and activated it but it was showing nothing after I clicked on “Disqus” to get activation key.
After that, I also checked out my other site on which it was working on some time already. Although it was working properly on that other site but it also showed nothing when I clicked on plugin itself.
Note: Both sites are using latest Disqus version.
Please help as soon as possible.

e.g if comment is posted 2 years back. It shows todays date as i synced now. Thanks. Please help

It was good… and everything changed.
Not GDPR compliant ??

It is shameful for such a common plugin not to be updated for a year. They put bad ads on the site, charge for the ad-free version and still don’t have the decency to offer an updated and reliable plugin.

Works? Yeah. But when I saw a lot of request from weird websites, I notice that was coming from this plugin. Malwares? Scams? Really bad thing.

Have had a ticket open for ten days now about Disqus no longer auto-syncing with WordPress. No response from support AT ALL, even for a paying account! Absolutely terrible support. This plugin has gone downhill real fast.

They are a clickjacker! I used the plugin Disqus for about 2 years, and it was very strange that for every Gearbest affiliation links with my id, I saw a redirect to Shareasale tracked link. Finally today I with network traffic in Chrome I saw it starting from Disqus. I used bitly links to fix it in the past month. Now I deactivated it, Disqus plugin is garbage. Scammers.
