Despite not updated for a while (which might not be needed, because it’s only just a few lines of code), it just works.

Works perfectly with WP 4.8.2

Perfect. Is there a way of listing disabled accounts afterwards? The ‘Disabled’ column isn’t sortable and I can’t figure a way of listing them.

Seems like a simple request, right? Disable a specific user account without deleting the user.
Surprisingly this isn’t a feature built into WordPress, and even more surprising there isn’t another plugin out there that does this. There are other simple plugins that say they do this — but they don’t work. There are other plugins that do things based on user role — but those are too complicated to set up user roles just to disable an account.
This does exactly what I needed — a simple plugin that lets me disable a user with just a checkbox. Simple.

Great idea for limiting access to others (admins or other users) while doing updates or maintenance on the backend.

I just created a .mo file for this plugin in pt_BR.
Here is the files: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B45nMNzIYUITenh1RWhDVzBHbmc.
PS: Thanks for the plugin. Works fine.

Works with a Multisite setup. Updating the user meta through WP-CLI is a breeze as well. Loving its simplicity, thank you very much for this plugin indeed.

@jared Atchison It works for me thanks for helping.

This plugin is very simple, but also very needed. WordPress has no possibility to disabling users account and this functionality was very important for one of my websites. So I’m very happy to find this plugin and it works very good without any problems.

I agree with this:

It does exactly as it says and I have to say I am impressed however I am adding some improvements:
A) It will know an outstanding invoice balance on a current user and won’t allow access until it is paid in full. It will allow an invoice outstanding for 30 days before blocking the user. Once the outstanding is paid in full it will automatically unblock the users account and allow them access. It will display a link in the message to a payment area where users can pay to unlock and clear there balances only restricting other login area access.
B) It will have the ability to display the username of the user in the message.
C) Have a link to raise a support ticket so the user can flag issues with the admin on blocked status and allow contact to resolve.
Other than these improvements (which are just my personal desires) it is an all round to the point plugin and would like to the give the author a special thumbs up as it was just what the doctor ordered. Many thanks indeed.
I shall share any tutorials on my improvements in the support forum section of the plugin page as an when I have completed them.
Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Thanks works well.

This plugin may work as advertised for regular logins via browser, but does not change the user’s access via XMLRPC.
An advanced user can easily circumvent this plugin’s setting by using WordPress API calls to XMLRPC, rendering it useless for external applications.

Works like a charm!

Gets right to the point and does what it says. The filter to change the message is an added bonus.
The only thing that I can think of to add would be either a ‘Status’ or ‘Disabled’ column in the All Users screen to quickly display whether the user is enabled, or disabled.
Very handy, and thanks Jared for your time on this!
