I’ve used this plugin for years, even when it was outdated. Still, its time has come. It generates too many errors now. It spits out 2 errors on nearly every page load:
Deprecated: update_option was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 5.5.0! The “comment_whitelist” option key has been renamed to “comment_previously_approved”.
And another deprecated warning about contextual_help, which the plugin author mentioned would be updated, but is yet to be updated.
I recently had to turn off the Disable Posts feature because it was preventing other features from working.
So sadly, too many issues to workaround now.

simple and essential tool that should be in every website by default

I have a habit of keeping my WordPress dashboard neat and clean but the big icon is ruining the look of the plugins page.

This plugin is very powerful and straightforward, and it certainly accomplishes what it says on the tin. However, I feel as though the default settings are a bit overreaching. I understand that most people will want to use most of the features and having them turned on by default makes this easy and intuitive.
However, from a more advanced user’s standpoint, this makes the plugin less useful. For example, if I only wanted to turn off the posts menu and comments, now I have to search through all the other settings and re-enable everything else I didn’t want the plugin to change.
I would really appreciate if you could perhaps include a button for advanced users to just wipe all of the plugin’s settings and set them to WordPress defaults, so that people who wish to only change a few things can easily do that without having to manually revert each and every one of the other settings the plugin is changing upon installation. This way I can be sure that only the few things I turn off are disabled.

Great plugin to simplify the adminarea for less tech savvy users on sites that dont utilize the blog feature of wordpress.

Most websites don’t need true blog functionality and I like the authors implementation of moving everything blog-related inside of ‘tools’- where it should have placed years ago.
I feel like the blog-first design is an artifact from a time when WP was way less developed/adopted and had more competition and benefit from the distinction of being a blog platform. Just my two cents anyway.
Many thanks to Fact Maven for the great plugin.

Works for my simple needs. Useful for non-blog centered websites.

I used to have all kinds of different functions in play to remove both the commenting and blogging functionality from WP installs.
The plugin Disable Blogging does it both and then some!
Its settings can be found under the Users menu and with it you can finetune more stuff you really don’t need, such as the admin color menu and other bloat.
5 stars well deserved, keep up the good work!
Thanks,
Piet

I have many client sites that do not use the post functionality at all. I have tried this plugin on one fresh site, and it greatly reduces the Admin clutter. Thank you; it is a good idea.
Some suggestions:
Please do not disable the Dashboard or at least make its display optional. The Dashboard is not just about Post functionality. Many plugins display valuable information there.
I have had many sites receive spam comments even when comment functionality is not displayed on the front end. Is all comment functionality completely disabled with this plugin or does it just hide the comment options from the admin? If the latter, there should be some notification about this so users can set the comment options before enabling the plugin.

I have to say this is an interesting concept that I came across when I read about this on the wptavern website. I read it and decided that I had to install this on a clean installation of WP to try this out. Sure enough it does a good job and ideal for non-blog based sites.
Just a suggestion, but it would be nice to maintain the Dashboard home as the place you are redirected after logging in; just remove blog based meta boxes only. Doesn’t make sense to be taken to your profile. At least, a redirect to the “Pages” list.
I also noticed that if you go to Settings >> Reading, the Front Page Display settings are still there. This isn’t an issue, but I noticed the “blog posts” option is still there.
Overall, I like this plugin so far and as a theme developer, I can see that it opens the door non-blog website themes. There could be a potential market there for non-bloggers.
I wasn’t sure if I would give 5-stars or 4 because of the couple of things I mentioned earlier, but I decided 5-star is good for the concept, capability, and the fact it opens the door to a new market.
