As of WordPress 6.3, this plugin does not work anymore in the blocks editor if the Classic block is rendered as a modal. The reason is that the pop-up form has become inaccessible due to a modal being in the way.
Expected behaviour:
* Start a new page or blog post.
* Select the Classic block.
* An inline editor appears.
* Click the “By” button.
* Fill out the image credits form.
* Press “Submit” to inject the formatted contents of the form into the block.
Actual behaviour:
* Start a new page or blog post.
* Select the Classic block.
* A modal editor appears.
* Click the “By” button.
* The plug-in’s modal is rendered behind the Classic block’s modal. The only way you can use the former is by closing the latter, at which point you can no longer insert the content generated by the former into the (closed) latter.
The change of the Classic block was unannounced (at least not in the WordPress 6.3 announcement) and is currently full of bugs, some of which simply stem from the choice of having the classic block editor being a modal in the first place, e.g. you cannot edit the block settings; if you want to edit the text afterwards, you need to click a button first.
Initially I thought all Classic block editors had been changed to modals until I saw on another site I manage and that I had also upgraded to 6.3 that there the Classic block editor was still rendered inline.
I am not sure what causes the Classic block editor to be rendered inline or as a modal, maybe some plugin or theme is running interference.
The easiest way for me as the plugin’s author to deal with this problem would be to wait until the WordPress developers have fixed the most important problems with this block, but that could take a while.
Therefore I plan on creating a workaround in the short to medium turn. I do not know when yet. If you are a user of this plug-in and are bothered by this bug, please let me know in the comments. This helps me determine how urgent the fixing of this bug is.
My apologies if this report has odd formatting: the Support forums have started using Gutenberg blocks.

]]>A message from the plugin author:
In previous versions of this plugin and in this support forum I have repeatedly stated that Credit Line Generator does not support the Gutenberg editor (the default Word-press post editor since Word-press version 5) and that I am thinking about adding Gutenberg support.
This is respectively not entirely true and no longer true.
Apparently the Gutenberg editor contains a Classic block or a Classic Editor block that basically has a complete classic editor inside a Gutenberg block.
A result is that you can automatically use the Credit Line Generator inside this block.
I did not know about this when Word-press started talking about releasing WP 5, and when I look at the introduction of this block I can see why; it wasn’t finished until shortly before the release of WP 5.0 I probably did not see any mention of it.
In other words, although this plugin does not natively support Gutenberg, it can be used inside the Gutenberg editor by using the Classic Editor block.
I have adapted the user manual to reflect this. In fact, the entirety of version 0.3.2 consists of changes to the manual.
As to the second point; the way I currently use Credit Line Generator doesn’t make it necessary for me to add Gutenberg functionality. I have started working on a Gutenberg version of the plugin, but this turned out to be a ton of work. What Gutenberg adds is the ability to change an existing credit line inside the credit line form. The advantage is, to me at least, not worth the effort, which is why I am unlikely to pursue making a Credit Line block.
Let me know if you disagree.
]]>I just noticed a bug where the form is too wide on narrow screens (e.g. mobile phones). The form displays correctly on wide screens and a narrower version of the form displays correctly on medium sized screens.
I reproduced this bug in version 3.0 of the plugin in versions 4.9.11 and 5.3.0 of WordPress.
Since the form still works, I do not consider this a very urgent problem, but please let me know if you disagree. I will probably try and fix this in the next version of the plugin.
]]>Hi, it is the author here.
I have added functionality that will now also let you use the Credit Line form in the Visual editor instead of just the Text editor.
In order to do this, I had to increase the minimal WordPress version from 3.3 to 3.9. This is a WordPress version that was introduced 5 years ago, so in theory this should harm no-one.
If for some reason you still use older versions of WordPress, older versions of this plug-in should work just fine with your WordPress installation.
My main reason for adding support for the Visual Editor is so that people who install the plug-in without reading the manual, won’t go “it doesn’t work!” when they try to find a button in the Visual Editor.
As a result there is at least one minor bug in the Visual Editor version where after generating a credit line, the cursor jumps to the first link in your post. This is such a minor problem that I thought it would be more beneficial to publish this upgrade with it than to try and fix the bug first.
If you see anything else going wrong, as always, please post it here.
I have been working on a Gutenberg version of the plug-in, but that appears to be more problematic than I initially imagined (mostly because I have to refactor basically everything), so the next feature you might see turn up is probably going to be some form of translatable strings instead.
]]>Wordpress 5 has introduced a new editor called Gutenberg. This plug-in will not (for now) work with Gutenberg. In order to keep using this plug-in, you will have to install the Classic Editor plugin and then use the Text tab in the classic editor for this plugin to work.
I will probably try and add Gutenberg compatibility, but it is currently not high on my list of priorities. (But do let me know if you need it!)
]]>This plugin does not store personal data.
I will add a note to this effect to the documentation at a later date.
]]>A word from the developer: as of today (9 December 2016) this plug-in still does what I want it to do and it does so on the latest version of WordPress (4.7).
If you have any questions, request or reports, please don’t hesitate to post them.
]]>With the introduction of WordPress 4.0 the Add Media button and the tab riders for switching between editor types is rendered across the Credit Line Generator dialog window.
This impacts the functionality of the plug-in. Although you can still use the plug-in, you may not be able to see what you enter in some of the fields.
I will try and fix this as soon as I have the time.
]]>It would probably a good idea to make the plugin also work in the visual editor.
Currently it only works in the Text tab of the WordPress editor.
I haven’t received any requests about this, but if it’s enough to do, I’ll implement this (or accept patches). It seems to me this could help confusion for those who download the plugin and don’t seem to be able to find the Credit button.
]]>The plugin’s homepage said, until recently:
This plugin hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.
As the developer I can tell you that the plugin is compatible with the most recent version of WordPress at the time of writing (3.9.2) and very much “in development”.
The reason the plugin isn’t seeing much change is because it is still functioning the way I want it to and there haven’t been many feature requests. (It’s really a very simple plugin.)
]]>This is a feature request I received via e-mail.
“Please make the CC license URL with a drop-down link chooser thingy with like 2-3 options instead of constantly cutting and pasting basically the same CC link, that would be great.”
After some correspondence I found out that this user basically only her gets images from Flickr, which limits the number of Creative Commons licences photographers can apply to six.

]]>This is a request somebody else sent me through e-mail: “maybe make it so that the name is also a hyperlink (could generate more traffic)”.
I assume she means the photographer’s name.

I can’t see the form.
