I’m finding the backslash escape character is getting introduced wherever apostrophes exist (ie, “we\’ll” for “we’ll”) when I edit and save existing comments in CommentPress Core’s “Edit Comment” option in the right sidebar where the comments display. If I go back into edit mode and delete the backslashes, they reappear when I save the changes. The only way I’ve found to delete them permanently is to edit and save in the “Comments” menu interface from the site dashboard. Is there a way to prevent the intrusion of these escape characters when editing directly on the front end? The problem persists whether one is editing in “visual” or “text” mode. Thanks! When using CommentPress and one paragraph only consist of a list I cannot click that list to open the comment section in the sidebar. I need to click on the comment symbol instead.
This is not related to the Gutenberg issue mentioned in the other thread cause until it is compatible I use the classic editor plugin. Also, when using CommentPress with the Classic Editor clicking on other Text sections works fine.
Thansk ina adance.
Unfortunately when using Gutenberg to create the texts. CommentPress thinks all text is in one line so we cannot click on a paragraph to just comment this one. The whole text appears red and not only one paragraph. We need to click on the comment symbol instead.
Any fix for this planned? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
How do you permanently hide or remove the table of contents sidebar? I mean, hide it and replace the space with a wider middle bar.
I was trying to do this with CSS, but when I click on a paragraph to comment, the middle bar returns to its original place.
I tried this with the modern an flat commentpress themes.
Thanks!

Hello, we are using your plugin (Version 3.9.11) with CommentPress Modern Theme (3.9) on WP 4.9.6
As defaut settings, i’m displaying activity tabs on my home page and i also want to diplay the content of “Commentaires récents sur ce document”,
or keep open the comments on the whole document, is there a way to do that ?

i can easily change and correct some theme translationss by editing the .po file located in wp-content > languages > plugins,
but despite all reseach i can do, also in forum, i’m unable to locate the file to change translation of “Comments on the whole page” and “Comments on bloc”
Thanks in advance if you can help to find the file to edit and change these texts in french.
Have a nice day

It seems there’s a bug, at least in our version of the site. Any suggestions?
Specifically, when adding to an existing comment on a paragraph the site does not show the comment that has just been made, but rather repeats the existing comment in the right hand pane. This can be fixed by refreshing the page, which correctly shows the new comment underneath the previous comment. However, this is confusing for contributors.
I need to export a CommentPress site to another location. It’s on a multisite so it’s required a multisite exporter. When I’ve tried to upload the site as a standalone site, it doesn’t work at all. I can upload my entire multisite and the CommentPress site is perfect (see here). However, when I export the site data through the WordPress exporter and then import to a new site, Commentpress comments are assigned to the whole page, not individual paragraphs (see here). Any ideas?

Hi Everyone,
Apologies, I am still a bit new to WordPress, and coding – learning as I go.
I host a multisite install that we have been using in the classroom for different courses for annotation. The lastest release of CommentPress has been causing our site to crash, due to a fatal error. I have rolled our site back and have not updated the plugin yet, as every time I do, I get the same error.
The error is below. Any help would be very much appreciated. Again, please excuse my ignorance!

I’ve inherited technical ownership of a nonprofit’s commentpress core site.
New documents they’re adding to the site always say “comments closed” and I can’t figure out why. E.g.,
On this forum I saw that you have to go to Screen Options and turn comments on. I did that. I also don’t see anything in the commentpress settings that seem like they should be causing this, but I may not know what I’m doing.
Any suggestions for something to try next?

I am using wordpress multisite version 4.7.4 with buddypress

Hello,
First off, thanks for the excellent plugin.
So far the only issue I’m having is with editing comments. If I click the “EDIT” button above a posted comment, it takes me to a separate page to edit the comment, using the WordPress post editor. Is this expected behavior? I assume so, as I don’t see any errors logged.
If this is expected behavior, is there any plan to handle comment editing with AJAX in the future? Or is that too difficult to implement?
Thanks,
Scott

Hello,
I am using the Frontend Post plugin for contributor publishing, and I set the width to 50, please check here: https://prntscr.com/epjyrg
but it is still very very narrow and it leave a large margin at frontend in mobile mode, please check here: https://prntscr.com/epjzw0

Thanks so much.

2# it is only can be accessed by contributors who can post at front-end. and I hope the contributor can only view his or her articles and comments which site editor commented, and can not edit or view others. Any suggestions or comments?

My site is working great thanks to CommentPress. But now I have run into problems. My university wants to run a static html archival image (obviously without commenting) on its cloud. I have setup a local version on my desktop (Linux with LAMP stack) and it work well. But I have been unsuccessful converting it to a static html image using plugins such as Simply Static or WP Static HTML Output. It seems that the CommentPress plugin blocks the conversion. Any advice?
As I’ve mentioned to you before, I’m using Commentpress to run multiple translations projects at one time. https://hidensho.com/
At present the link in the Activity section for recent comments is “Recent Comments in this Document”. This of course pulls up all recent comments, from all of my projects, which is confusing to reader). It also appears even on the home page and other background pages (no actual project), which they find even more confusing
It would be best if I could:
First, and most difficult, would be to get a functions.php script so that this header/link only shows up inside a project. As all project pages are sub-pages, I basically saying that link should not show up on top level pages.
Additionally — perhaps easiest — I need at least to be able to change the header to: “Latest Comments from all Documents”, rather than the present “Latest Comments in this Document:
Finally, if nothing else can be done, I need to be able to hide that header/link using CSS display:none. Unfortunately, the closest ID tag I can find for that heading/link is “activity_header”… and, of course, hiding this hides all entries in the Activity section, not just the one.
Any help with this small problem appreciated.

Hello Christian
I’m trying-out CommentPress for a project to “crowd-source” annotations on a long poem that is divided into “Cantos”. Since these are the equivalent of Chapters, I’m using Pages for each Canto. Line-by-line commentary is helpful. Using the default setup for the “Flat” theme, the RH column reports “0 Comments on line…” for every line of the current Canto.
Is there some modification I can make to disable the display of the comment-count for each line where the count = 0?
Thank you.

I have been using Commentpress to allow translators to work on translating antique Japanese manuscripts between 100 and 400 years of age. It has been a very successful experiment thus far. https://hidensho.com/
I wish to be able to post more than one document for translation. While I’ve had no problem using the Parent feature to create a collapsible menu in the left-hand column (using Commentpress-Modern theme), I have run into a small problem with the automatic page navigation / numbering feature.
Your system’s menu presently views each of these collapsible sections (pages with a parent) as a Chapter in a book, continuing the automatic page numbering sequence through Chapter to Chapter.
The way I am using Commentpress, each “chapter” is actually a separate project, and needs to have child pages counted starting at the number 1. Is there some way to reset the automatic page numbering to 1 for each chapter?
If this is difficult or impossible, how can I filter out the automatic page number, while still leaving the automatic forward / back arrows? I can easily establish the page number in the title. but keeping the navigation arrows would be a must.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello,
I currently use this plugin for student projects in a university setting. I (along with our students) would like to know if it is possible to alter/remove the “Special Pages” menu.
I saw a post from about a year ago that said you would be adding some type of feature to do this, but if it is in the current version of the plugin, I cannot locate it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Hello,
On our site, we have CommentPress operating for purposes of commenting on individual paragraphs on Pages, but we’d like to be able to include a generic single comment box on Posts. Is there a built-in way to do this already? I thought I’d check before trying to code something.
Thanks!
In the color scheme of my theme (child of CommentPress-Flat), the page didn’t visually distinguish itself from the comment area. So I added a background-image/repeat to fix that. But apparently, I have to put it into the ‘page_wrapper’ class, and that only works in the parent’s ‘screen.min.css. When I added an ‘assets/css’ subdirectory in my child theme directory, the background did not seem to be transmitted. The problem is that I will lose the background, anytime you update CommentPress. Is there a trick, to do it in the child theme directory?
As of three days ago, the template dropdown in ‘New Page’ and ‘Page Edit’ disappeared. The template is still recorded in the database table ‘postmeta’. The only thing, I can think of, I used the ‘Search and Replace’ and the ‘WP Optimize’ plugins. But I have deactivated those again, and the Template dropdown didn’t come back. I did notice, though, that the ‘Search and Replace’ operation inserted backup tables in the database.
Greetings,
I recently installed WordPress and the CommentPress plugin. I’ve begun to create a document that I would like commented on by my local community. I noticed today that the commenting form is fully functional on the landing/title page–the page that was part of the CommentPress install, but for all new pages that I create, the commenting feature is NOT working. The form with name, email, and text field are not deployed when I click on any of the prescribed triggers for making a comment.
As I noted, everything is working perfectly for the title page (the page that was part of the original CommentPress install), but not working at all for new pages I create. I’ve looked through everything I can think to look through on the admin side and have searched the Web for clues as to what’s up. I’m hoping that someone on this forum can provide some advice.
Thank you in advance for any advice you have!

I have a book-like site with ‘chapter’ pages and ‘page’ sub-pages. All the paragraphs are of the type
…
. Comment is ‘allowed’ on the Page>quick edit form. Yet, I don’t get the paragraph icons, and the ‘paragraph comments’ do not trigger. I can only make comments for the whole page.
What else can I do?
I’m looking to make two small customizations to my install, which will be used in a group project to analyze illustrations from an antique manuscript. While I’ve run text searches on the commentpress file folder, I’ve been unable to locate the line which writes the text:
In the COMMENTS column, I’d like to have the text output:
“Y Comments on Paragraph X” say instead “Y Comments on Item X”
When clicking on the about link a text window opens with the title:
“Leave a comment on paragraph X” which would have to changed to “Leave a comment on Item X”
If you could point out the files where I can change these, it would be much appreciated.
Is there a way to tag or style some paragraphs so that CommentPress ignores them? I know it ignores text formatted with H1, H2, etc. I’m thinking about situations where I have an introductory paragraph of instructions before a poem or footnotes that I don’t want students to annotate.
Hi,
Is there a simple workaround so that I can turn on or turn off, or decide when I create a post/page whether to apply commentpress to it?
I am guessing the answer is probably more related to how I engineer the plugin to be activated for specified pages/posts rather than there being an internal easy way to do it?
Or I guess I just have to make the CommentPress look as similar as possible to my webpages so its not so radically different?
Or some way to turn off commentpress on pages with comments closed? (which is what i want to do).
Or simply run commentpress posts on a secondary website, and somehow embed them into my main wordpress site? or simply link to them?
Or perhaps if i run it in buddypress it will allow me to apply it to certain groups only?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, or which of the above options you think is most doable
Many Thanks
