I have a small issue. The transliteration trims the first word of the title:
π.χ. “καταστατικ? αναδοχ?? παιδιο?”
becomes
“anadochis-paidioy”
which means that the first word “katastatiko” was completely lost in transliteration (pun indented).
Any idea how to handle that?

Unfortunately german umlauts (?, ?, ü) are converted just into their correlative vowels (a, o, u) instead of the common german conversion (ae, oe, ue). Would it be possible to change this?

First of all, great plugin! Congratulations, it is a must have for all the websites that I develop and manage.
Recently, I did a project that upload an image via URL with the media_sideload_image function. Just right now I realized that your plugin doesn’t filter the name of the images when uploaded via this function.
Tweaking you plugin code, in the file clean-image-filenames.php in the line 58, if you add:
add_action( 'wp_handle_sideload_prefilter', array( $this, 'upload_filter' ) );
It will handle the filename of the images that are uploaded with media_sideload_image function.
I’ll be glad if you do this modification.

we recently came across a bug when using “Clean Image Filenames” in combination with the Plugin “WP Customer Area”.
We use both “Clean Image Filenames” and “WP Customer Area” so an admin user can upload files for other users to download in their own specific user area. We obviously need “Clean Image Filenames” to keep the file names as clean as possible.
BUT: In the last two weeks we encountered issues while uploading (any kind of) files!
In the WordPress backend you have the plugin “WP Customer Area”. There you add a new post and you have the option to upload files. You select the files from your computer and it’s uploaded. While “Clean Image Filenames” is activated, you visually see that the file should now be uploaded and available on the server. But the file is nowhere to be found on the server and can’t be downloaded or viewed by any user (because it wasn’t really uploaded!). We checked everything via FTP. Once we deactivate “Clean Image Filenames” and upload the files again, the files appear on the server and can be viewed and downloaded.
We are using WordPress 5.9 on PHP 7.4.
Is this a compatibility issue and can this be fixed?

I’ve noticed, that with Clean Image Filenames enabled, the first letter of the image title is removed, if it’s a character that is supposed to be replaced.
The filename itself looks as expected.

]]>Hey. Love your plugin, and I’m looking for at way, to set default alt and description tags while uploading. Implementing the snippet linked, does the trick (although I commented out the caption part, which could change the visible output)..
An *option* to set ALT tags while uploading images would be a nice addition to Clean Image Filenames.

I have a website that i transfered recently from one host to another. Unfortunately when i did that, i noticed that all the images that had special characters in it lik (é, è, à, …) weren’t showing anymore in my pages.
I’m trying to resolve to this issue. I’m thinking maybe if i can rename these imagaes by removing/replacing the special characters in them i can solve this problem.
So my question if anyone of you knows a plugin that changes the names of the “upload” files and in the database aswell that would be much helpful.

The plugin clears the image/file name and renames it with correct characters and all lowercase. But it only does this for the images/files I upload.
So how to clean and rename existing images/files before of plugin is installed?

Is there a way to keep the original filename in the Title field when uploading a file, before the clean image plugin changes the filename?
For exemple, I have this file : Album XYZ from artist ABC.mp3
Your plugin will change the filename to something like album-xyz-from-artist-abc.mp3, but I need to keep “Album XYZ from artist ABC” in the Title field.

Is this supposed to happen? I think it looks kinda ugly and should probably look something like the following: aaeoeue.png
Am I missing something? Is this normal? What can I do to fix it?

The image files sadly contains danish letters ??? – and somehow this has caused those images with those letters not to show (to break) …
When I copy the link from the actual image it looks like this:
wp-content/uploads/2016/03/sm%C3%A5b%C3%B8rn-no.9.jpg
Where it orginally looked like this:
wp-content/uploads/2016/03/sm?b?rn-no.9.jpg
There is hundreds of images so manually fixing it will be impossible…
is it somehow possible to make your plugin do it’s thing on all the allready existing media files? ??

When I am uploading an image without “Clean image filenames”, and afterwards a second one with the same file name, the second one gets suffixed with “-1”.
With this plugin activated, the first file gets overwritten, but both files are visible in the media browser.
Can you reproduce this? I think this is a behaviour which is not wanted. ??
