In screen shots I have seen that a “play” button appears on the profile gallery widget. My question is, to start the photo slideshow is it necessary to play it manually or when a viewer visit user profile it automatically starts the slideshow?

This should be called “Photostream ID” instead.

Your Photostream ID is typically your Flickr Username with no spaces. It can be located after the “photos/” portion of your photostream url.
Using your Flickr Username, since they can have spaces, will not work in all cases.

It’s better to pull this from the photostream url, but because the field has the required title “Flickr Username”, additional explanation is required. Confusing to the user.
