I don’t know if I understand this wrong, but does “Public Messaging Quota Restrictions” refer to the number of activities users can publish per month? I set it to 1 and a test account that still allowed unlimited activities to be sent

Another bug is that restricted user groups encounter fatal errors after logging in if Buddypress doesn’t open the group component. You can see in the WordPress log that bp-messaging-control-loader tries to use the non-existent function bp_get_groups_slug():

I used to run Buddypress on a test site with this plugin and this plugin is such a life saver, thank you!

Now I have deleted and re-created my test site with Buddyboss to test a different set up. Although it works, there are a few issues with the way it appears and acts on the front end, and I was wondering if you could help with fixing it, since Buddyboss says anything made for Buddypress works for Buddyboss. So I wanted to tell you the issue here – if I need to go to Buddyboss and ask them, that is fine too. I am using BuddyX, which is specifically for Buddypress/Buddyboss, I also have WordPress 6.6.1, BP Messaging Control 1.8.0, and Buddyboss 2.6.71.

Here are the issues:

1. I’ve used this messaging restriction plugin to restrict who can message other users on my Buddyboss site. The restriction works fine, BUT if a user who has messaging disabled for them goes to another user’s account and click on the messaging button, it takes the user to a new page that says something like “Oops, page could not be found”. This doesn’t look good and I was hoping it could show something similar to what Buddypress says, which is something like “you are not allowed to send messages” or something, rather than loading a 404 webpage, or even better, have the “Send Message” button hidden for users that cannot send messages.
2. For users that can send messages, the interface looks like this: https://snipboard.io/KpXvbE.jpg (here is what it looks like if you click outside the invisible search box: https://snipboard.io/zSgMRh.jpg). The issue is, when a user tries to send a message to a user without typing their username in the invisible search box, even if the username is in the dropdown menu, you get this error: https://snipboard.io/zaGJNb.jpg. If you search for a user in the invisible search box, the messages can ultimately be sent, but, when people type their messages, even though it says “Enter to Send Shift+Enter to add a new line”, pressing “enter” doesn’t visibly do anything, ie the message that you type still stays in the text box, so it is not obvious that a message was sent. To see if I have successfully sent the message, I logged out and logged back in to the website as the message recipient. The message was received, but received several times, one for each time the message sender pressed “enter”, and it was pressed multiple times, since it appeared that nothing happened. 3. I have one test user role that I have disabled messaging for, and also hid them from the membership directory. The issue is, when a person goes to send a message and searches for a user in the invisible search box, all users with names matching that search term or letter eg A for Admin as well as Adam, shows up. Users who I have disabled messaging for, the message will fail to send. Maybe that is intended – if they can’t send messages they probably are blocked from receiving it too. But this is not a good look, to have undesirable users show up in the search box and then have an error message show when you attempt to send a message “There was a problem sending your message.”. Can this be fixed too? ie hide users who should be hidden (admins and people who cannot send messages) so they don’t show up in the search box, so messages can’t be sent to them, and the error message won’t show?

2: Is it possible to restrict/limit access to the messaging with other membership plugins such as Paid Membership Pro for example? Or only with your plugin?

I would like to limit the number a member can send per day. I want to integrate membership levels (with help of membership plugin).

Perhaps I’m missing something, but can we have a ZERO quota for Private Messaging Quota Restrictions? I want to set the quota to 0 for blocked users for instance.

Also often times new users come in and spam the group. Perhaps a setting to restrict new users would be useful. I’ve seen it requested before.

Hi, is it possible to have more role based restrictions?

For example,

Subscriber can send private messages to Authors only.
Or a custom snippet for that would be great.

I am not sure if it is some issue between this Plugin and Community Builder Pro or some other reason.
But the message cap limits are not working – and the message cap limit notices are not showing.

Hello, is it possible to hide the messages that are printed above of the “compose a new message” form?

For example: “Your messaging is capped, you can send a further50messages thismonth You have unrestricted message length” (<- i’d like for this messages to be hidden)

I noticed there are no wrappers around this message. Making it impossible for me to remove it with simple CSS. Is there another way to do this without having to edit the plugin files?

Can I still messages to all users who are not friends if I am a subscriber and I give the subscriber role access to send all users messages?

I would like to suggest an interesting feature I think it’s easy to implement that is to have the posibility of setting a period the users have been members to apply the restrictions.

Example: If the user registered less than 3 months ago, limit their messages to 5 per day.

I was getting fopen failed to open languages folder, but since it was empty, I just deleted the languages folder and big error on page has gone away. Is that okay, that I deleted the languages folder?

I have a role “members” that can only send message to admins – not other members.

However now, when they are sending message they can see everyone in auto suggestions.
Is it possible to hide all the other roles than admin from suggestion when sending a message?

2. A new user has registered.
3. The role of the new user has been set to subscriber.

Im having problems with the plugin at the moment.
The messages link is disappearing when the plugin is activated. I have a dropdown menu for my profiles and here I can click “messages” but Im redirected to the 404 page.
When I visit other users the “Private message” button is gone. But it seems like the “Private message” button appears when Im an admin user visiting another admin user.
When I deactivate the plugin all message functionalities comes back..

Hi, is there an option to create an html form on a post or page that would send a direct message to the post owner?

I have some suggestions on how to make the layout of the settings menu of the plugin a little nicer:
– It would be easier to get an overview of the different ID’s and there settings if the IDs were in an ascending order (now it seems a little random).
– I use google chrome and the “Public message” settings list is pushed up over the wordpress top window messages area.
– When reading and using the settings it gets a little confusing that I e.g choose: “freely message all site users” and “unlimited character length restrictions” but then I actually give a restriction of e.g. 5 message pr. day. I mean that the text indicates that everything is free and unlimited – but it there a restriction or not.. The coolest would maybe be if the dropdown menues were dependent on eachother. But the simple thing would be to add some text to explain the dependencies of the different settings.

I made an update of 1.6.0.
After the update, there was one thing I wanted to check.

In the settings, I can select the length of the message content of New Message Notification emails.

1. I chose unlimited and sent a personal message.
2. There were no message contents in the mail that arrived.
3. It looks like “[…].”
4. If I choose 25,50, 75,100… instead of Unlimited, the contents of the mail looked normal.

I think if I choose Unlimited, I have to see all the contents. What do you think? Can you check?
