Hey,
thank you for the awesome plugin.
However, it would be really helpful if you add a book chapter support ??
Hi
I am using both the doi and bibtex method to import references, but in both cases there is no Journal (and also no issue) info imported. The Journal field is empty and I need to type it.
Any hints?

Thank you
Dear users of the plugin,
after having some start issues I got it to run with the help of the developer and am glad about its results.
Only issue I am having with it is, that if one manually updates or adds works to the data base, the plugin shuffels the authors seemingly at random. If I click update book/article/conference multiple times, it re-sorts the authors list every time for no real reason.
Also, if one tries to add a work manually with the authors in the correct order and updates/creates the entry, the authors are shown in another order.
Has anybody else experienced this so far?
Hi, I’ve now added a good amount of papers to a website using this plugin and it works quite well (with a few quirks I’ll mention below).
I sort the publications by year and display it in a descending order (so starting with 2021, 2020, etc.) as a numbered list, which works. But within the year the papers are sorted in an ascending order, for example a paper published in January will be listed at the top even if there are “newer” papers published later in the year (let’s say June) in the list. Is there a way to sort both all papers and papers within a year in descending order, so the newest are always displayed at the top (of each year)?
Other quirks/bugs I’ve come across:
If the title contains a ‘ or \ sign you can import it via the Import from DOI function but can no longer modify it after the import (nothing happens if you click modify in “Manage Works”) – you’ll need to delete and reimport it.
If I import a paper via the Import DOI function and upload a file at the same time, the file will not be uploaded (no matter how long I wait to make sure the file was really uploaded). I have to go to Manage Works, delete the file and reupload it from there so that it is really uploaded.
Similarly, if I add a paper via the Import from DOI function, “It is preprint” is not selected by default. However once I imported it will be selected and I have to deselect it manually.
I was not able to import from a .bib file created by https://www.bioinformatics.org/texmed/ from a Pubmed search. It will only enter empty entries to the list of works (which youll then have to manually remove. An option to batch delete a couple of selected entries would be nice).
I don’t know if it is possible, but having the option to display the last name first and the first name only as initials would be great – I just prefer the looks of it and have to manually change every imported authors name from “First_Name Last_Name” to “Last_Name, Initials”.
Thanks!
Hi! The plugin is super easy to use and works great. There is however one thing I cannot figure out or am not sure whether it is supported at all:
Is there the possibility to highlight multiple authors in a publication (e.g. underline or use italic/bold text to indicate that these authors are associated with the group)?
I tried adding html code like to individual authors names but that does not work.
Thanks!
Hi
I’ve just installed this plugin as a replacement for a plugin I use for Mendeley as Mendeley will soon remove its API access etc.
I’ve imported a list of papers via the .bib import and they all show under the “manage papers” options and are all set to public, however when I use any shortcode, including the default [publications auth=all subj=all prep=all] shortcode, nothing is displayed.
I use VisualComposer, and havetried the shortcode as both their shortcode entry and as raw HTML, but the shortcode is just displayed as text and nothing appears.
Is this a conflict with VisualComposer, or am I just missing something obvious in the setup?
Hello. I’m just trying out your plugin. I’m unable to get the listings to display like I see on your plugin page. Also, there’s no proper documentation on how to achieve this.
What I’m looking for is:
Title (Hyperlinked) – Author (Hyperlinked) – Year – Download (Hyperlinked). I would like to customize this further. But, I’ll start here. Also, is there a way I can setup some kind of sorting and a search option?
Any help is much appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi!
I encountered a strange bug, when two consecutive authors share the same last name.
If this happens, it will end up with something like this:
[first_name1] [firstname2] [lastname] [lastname]
(instead of [first_name1] [lastname],[firstname2] [lastname] – please note also the missing separator”,”)
Thanks!
Hey,
thank you for the awesome plugin.
However, it would be really helpful, if in the custom styled publication lists within links the quite important “target” and “rel” would be allowed in addition to “href”.
Thanks and cheers!
Plugin looks wonderful for generating bibliographies and citations.
I would also like to be able to grab the abstract from the import, if that is possible for a future release.
support i have been trying to build a journal website with elementor but with what i am seeing the books and paper plugin is not compartible with the elementor plugin. when i insert the url, it becomes invisible. so i am asking if there is a way to syle the books and paper plugin to bring out the colour. thanks
Hi Frier,
Sorry if this is a daft question/ wasting your time!
I am trying to move the URL onto a new line, in the settings I have tried wrapping the URL in a paragraph break although this didn’t seem to work. Do you know if there is a way of doing this?
The code I was using was:
[title], [authors] ([year]), DOI: [doi], PP. [pages] Download Paper
The para break is always removed after saving and so I assume its not allowed.
Thanks and best regards,
Ben
Hi Frier!
Sorry to bother you again, I have just noticed when importing a paper using a DOI number the default ‘Work Type’ is ‘Conference’ (which is good for us!) but then scrolling down you see the field ‘Journal’. If you then go back up and select ‘Work Type’/ Article, and then ‘Work Type’/ Conference again you get Book Title this time!
Its just that once saved and you try to manage your works, Journal doesn’t appear in the overview only the Book title.
If there isn’t an easy fix its fine for us to simply change the Work Type away from Conference and then back. Or otherwise on the front end sort by Journal and not Book Title. Although the journal name doesn’t appear in the manage works overview it is stored in the backend and can be used as a search term.
Thanks again and best regards!
Ben
Hi Frier,
I’m not sure whether you can help, I’m using the tags feature to categorize topics although when I import from DOI the tags field doesn’t appear.
Is this something you would be able to add, it would be really very much appreciated!
All the best
Ben
Firstly what a great plugin!
I’m not sure whether this is possible, every year we have a conference with proceedings we want to publish, so intended to categorize by ‘book title’ (eg ‘zurich19′), and then topics using the tag field (eg’turbine’)…
I’ve tried lots of variations although none seem to work, when specifying a specific book title or tag. The call I was using was:
[publications auth=all title=zurich19 tag=turbine]
… I wasn’t sure how to call the ‘book title’!
I did also try to remove the book title request and still the tag didn’t give anything.
Any help would be VERY much be appreciated.
Thank you and Best regards
Ben
Hi!
My objective is for all publications to appear in the same list (not three, for articles, conferences, and books, but one mixed one) and this list to be sorted alphabetically by author (and within each author, for the publications to appear in chronological order). Is it possible to do something like that with how the plugin is now?
Thank you in advanced
Hi @frier.
For your attention, I’m experiencing the problem below concerning the reordering of authors.
If you try to modify a work (or simply open a work to modify it), the displayed order of authors becomes incorrect. Through trial and error I’ve discovered that the display can be corrected by inputting the authors in reverse order (enter last author first, then second last author, etc.).
Otherwise enjoying the functions of this plugin-in very much.
How comes the links aren’t active on the frontend preview of the publications list, and yet it added in the field for URL
Need some urgent support here, thanks
Thanks for developing this useful plugin which I am looking forward to using in the future. I am having trouble viewing any results from attempts to import a paper, either through a Bibtex file upload, DOI import, or manual entry. It seems that data from past entries does get stored someplace since they appear in the pick lists, but I can’t see evidence of this in my Manage Authors or Manage Works pages.
Hi:
I would like to add the journal name to the list.
Best regards.
Hello,
I installed the plugin (version 0.20200917) and I tried to import papers with DOI option but it didn’t worked: all the fields remained empty.
Hi all,
I′ve installed the plugin and inserted some articles, books and conference papers in order to have some “test files”.
Now, I created a new page and I pasted the code as it says in this plugin page as follows:
?[publications auth=all subj=articles]
My problems comes out when I visit my web page that says a lot of errors. Here I′ll just post the first two of them in case you could help me with the issue.

When working with this plugin, I realized that the editors don’t appear in your publications even though they are written to appear in the Book List within the Custom Publications List:
Writing this, the editors don’t show afterwards:
[authors] ([year]). [title]. [chapter] [editors] [pages] [supplementary] [publisher]

hi !

The plugin is working great for me, however I was wondering if it’s possible to add an additional identifier to each publication so we can assign a topic or two to each article. I would like to be able to display publications related to a certain topic on specific research pages. Is this ad-on possible? Thanks in advance.
Hi, my site is built on the site Builder “Elementor”. It supports short codes. But as soon as I set up Books & Papers, the site was empty, the pages turned white.I was forced to deactivate your plugin. I wouldn’t want to give up your unique plugin. Can you make the plugin compatible with “Elementоr”?

Could you please check it? I’m using the latest version. Thank you very much.
I have been trying to create a page with articles from only one year… Is there any way around this?
