I would only recommend using this plugin combined with caching.
Generating a shortlink from Bit.ly in the header on every page load is a massive and inefficient overhead.
I use New Relic to monitor resources and speed and my response time went from 5800ms to 1000ms the second I turned off this plugin.

Was looking for a plugin like this, surprised it existed, and this is the best one out there, setup took no time and it works flawlessly.
Only thing that is missing (not sure if even possible) but an option for the plugin to read all your urls, which you had before you installed this, so that they would show up on my Bit.ly account and I could track their process.

This took about 5 minutes (max) to setup. The code supplied by the developer copied easily into page and post templates allowing the bit.ly short codes to be accessed from the editor (get shortcode) button.
Works across all the sites in my multisite network.
Just network activate the plugin, insert the code on your main blog’s theme and you are done.
Couldn’t have been any easier.
This makes such a difference with my site sugarwars.org
