I use ManageWP. It updated about 15 blogs tonight and I got email alerts that they all went offline. I rolled the Akismet plugin back to 5.3.3 and they’re back up. When I try to manually update in a given site’s dashboard it says it can’t. I tried deleting 5.3.3 and just installing the latest version from scratch and it just said “fatal error” and didn’t install.
Server requirements listed on the page for WP version and PHP version are both met, so I’m starting off from the assumption that it’s not those. I use server logs instead of WP logs, and my server just keeps saying something about a possible syntax error on line 159 of class.akismet-admin.php, but when I look over the whole file nothing stands out to me. Figured I’d pass it along.
Hi! I am suddenly getting spam comments on the blog post I’ve linked. It’s an old post that I updated in September. I don’t remember this post or any other post getting hit like this. Before I started getting the spam comments I had changed the article a little bit by updating affiliate links, images and republished the post. Since then I’ve noticed over the past few weeks that I’m getting several comments each day on this particular post that are from porn sites. Each comment is super long with a massive list of links to porn stuff. Luckily Akismet is catching it so I can delete them. I just want to know if there’s a reason I’m getting them and if there is anything else that I can do. I definitely don’t want my site to point to porn. Thank you for your help!

]]>Hi, there!! I hope you’re having an amazing week!
I have a client that is having major issues with receiving spam through their funnel. reCAPTCHA is not catching the spam because the IPs are local and the information being submitted is 100% legit people’s information, but when my client calls the leads, they say they never contacted them. I signed up with ClickCease but the IPs are not showing on their logs so it appears the traffic is going directly to our site somehow. Whatever’s happening is complex. I’ve been researching and reaching out to multiple people, experts and still don’t have a solid solution after weeks of trying to figure it out. I’m losing my mind and my client is probably losing confidence in me.
We use Akismet on all of our other sites and it works beautifully. Based on what my developer has told me in the past, Akismet has a conflict with our funnel:
– We have a multi-step funnel that uses Gravity Forms.?
– Hidden Recaptcha is not working and we can’t have people answering puzzles for every step of our form.
– Can you take a look at the URL above and start with the zip code field to review our funnel and needs?
– Do you offer a work around or solution for something like we’ve built?
I’ve been looking into hcaptcha and other Google Ads bot blocking softwares but they are $500+ per month which is ludicrous for one site with this issue.
Ok. I think that’s all. Thank you for your time. Hoping you might have a solution! PLEASE HALP! ??
]]>Hello,
You sent me an e-mail, which I did not reject. In that e-mail you asked me to write a review and give you five stars and if I could not give you that rating I should reply to your message and explain the reason. I took time to write a reply and sent it only to get a slap on my face with the reason that:
550 5.1.1?: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table
This is offensive. You invite me to write to you then reject my message. I am at a loss for words. Now, this message will wait for moderation because you did not like what I said about Jetpack paywall. Please review your policies, communication standards, and then connect with your existing or past users.

]]>Hello,
The Akismet plugin conflicts with CAPTCHA and causes issues. What should be done to resolve this problem?
Anybody else finding comment checking by Akismet is super slow for the past few hours and their web server failing to check new comments. I tried to load the https://rest.akismet.com/1.1/comment-check URL myself and get an internal server error (500) from them, so think they’re down. This slows down new comment posting.
]]>Hi, after years of using Askimet and nothing having been changed, I’m now getting hundreds of Spam emails coming through. I don’t know why and it’s overwhelming. I appreciate Askimet very much but why is this happening? Is there another place to go for support? These wp.org forums used to be so active. Thanks.
]]>Hello,
We use Akismet in conjunction with Gravity Forms. Since a few days we receive massive spam in French language, which cannot be filtered by Akismet.
The fields first name, last name, e-mail and website are mapped accordingly and the honeypot is also activated.
Thank you very much for your help!
]]>Hi, I am using the free version of “Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection” v. 5.3.3. The Advanced DB Cleaner PRO 3.2.9 plugin told me that “jetpack_options” is linked to the Akismet plugin, see link. We may have used the Jetpack plugin in the past, I don’t use it now. I would like to remove “jetpack_options” and cron. Can you tell me if the Akismet plugin uses Jetpack? Thanks, Regards George
]]>Hi, I have just noticed this;
Akismet error code: 10003
Howdy! It looks like you have an Akismet Personal subscription, which does not appear to be appropriate for your current usage. In order to continue using Akismet in this way, you will need to upgrade your subscription to one of our Business or High Volume plans. You can click on the link below for further details.
I have previously contacted you and been assured from your pre sales department that as we are a not profit making club we would not need a paid subscription.

The wrong text string is this:

Wrong translation:

The correct string would be:

Please give me credits ??

As you can see this is so obviously spam. Wondering why it was not picked up.
]]>I’ve noticed an increase in the number of API calls since the month of May. Previously, the average was 30 requests per day, but the average has since grown to 1000 requests per day.
Can someone help me how to analyze why this is occurring. I host the website on a VPS with LiteSpeed at Digital Ocean and use Cloudflare.
Any documentation or instruction will be a great help.
Thanks.

After activating the plugin it causes a “too many redirects error”. It keeps trying to redirect constantly to /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=akismet-key-config&view=start

]]>Hi, I just migrated a site away from godaddy wordpress hosting and it seems that godaddy has done something to your plugin to corrupt it and it is erroring on a permissions issue with correct permission set on files, and siteground security scanner is flagging it as malware.
What i have tried so far:
Reset permissions on files for akismet plugin directory. File at issue is class.akismet-rest-api.php
Backup folder and reinstall akismet.
Delete plugin akismet folder and reinstall, plugin won’t activate

]]>Hi,
after checking your prices, I am wondering if I can use Akismet only for the form submission, to be more precise ONLY for the user registration form.
I use FluentForms to register users on my website and want to limit spam submissions right at the start.
Is there a setting/way in the dashboard/plugin setting area to use Akismet exclusively for that and not for the comment section?
This way I can reduce the API calls and settle for a lower end Akismet plan.
Thank you so much ??

There seems to be a duplicate field with the latest update, and it’s showing as a console error.
Any fix?
Just a quick heads up – ran into an issue updating Aksimet to v5.3.2.
Update process hung & displayed Maintenance Mode notification > 3 min.
Prefixed plugin name with _ to avert the problem for myself, but wanted to report the issue to help!
Let me know if you need any more info/details.

To negate a lot of API calls, Akismet should have some simple toggles to not scan certain types of incoming comments, one of which could be “trusted users”, aka, logged in users.
Is this doable?
]]>Hi,
I’m using Akismet Pro and have sent email messages to support, but I have not received a reply as yet, so I thought I try my luck here.
I was using the Jetpack contact form and Akismet Pro, but receiving lots of spam. Initially I was told that the system was learning from the feedback that I marked as spam and it should improve within a couple of days, but it didn’t.
I have since changed to WPForms Lite, enabled WPForms spam protection and Akismet, but still receiving lots of spam messages through our contact form.
Spam is mainly the same format, the name is FirstnameLastname with any spaces and all fake.
In addition I have now installed Ninja Firewall hoping that it will block the ip addresses of the spammers.
]]>My main contact form works fine, but my Volunteer Application form does not. Every test submission (using different email addresses) are marked as spam. The volunteer application won’t work until I turn Askimet off. I don’t know if It’s Concact 7 or Askimet. I’m frustrated and a breath away from assuming it’s both and finding a new Captcha and contact form solution. I have recreated this volunteer form TWICE, and each time I think it’s fine, it stops working again.

We are receiving a lot of spam via this form at them minute, even with ReCaptcha and now I’m trying to get Akismet working to help.
Hi,
My blog uses webmentions a lot, as I connected my self-hosted blog to the Fediverse, via Brid.gy (part of the IndieWeb), allowing the posts I publish and sent to Mastodon (example) to be liked and boosted and for people’s comments to be sent back.
All likes or boosts) are marked as “Bridgy Response” and some are flagged as spam by Akismet (and marked this way) and are “pending” till I validate them. Some comments are flagged too, even mine when I reply to someone, and their source is “https://brid.gy/comment/mastodon/...
“
Till now, I had activated the option to “Silently discard the worst and most pervasive spam so I never see it.” but not sure if I lost some comments, as some threads never appear, only one comment from time to time. Switched back to “Always put spam in the Spam folder for review.” which makes my spam folder quite full some days…
Is there a way to “whitelist” all the Bridgy responses/comments for review?
Sincerely
DJM
