I install WordPress through Fantastico, I have three. I moved the main business website from the root directory to a /wordpress/ directory following the Codex instructions and it worked fine except that Fantastico can no longer see what version it is and won’t upgrade it any more, so I do it manually on the rare occasions when I do

When I tried to upgrade it this time to 2.7.1 I followed the instructions again, or I thought I did. I backed up the whole thing using FTP onto my hard drive, and I checked some folders to make sure they had contents. I then replaced the WordPress files that I thought I was supposed to and started her up. No go. I got error messages that I didn’t save but it along the lines of not being able to find things.

Unfortunately my backup turned out to be incomplete. I have a backup from September, which must have been the last time I did a manual upgrade, and moved these files over, and it still doesn’t work.

I’ve got a copy of the pages in another installation of wordpress but it doesn’t have the plugins – e-Commerce, forms, etc. So I could rebuild from this if I had to, but I’d rather not have to.

I’ve also got backups of the database and I’ve even tried loading these over the top of another new installation of WP. The pages work but the plugins don’t.

Any advice would be very gratefully received. The site is https://www.heritagegenealogy.com.au. The new one is in /hg/ and the old, non-working one is in /wordpress/. I’m sorry if I’ve left out any vital information.

    Cheers
    Carole

Well, in case anyone is reading this later, I fixed it myself. I read some answers to other posts and did what I obviously should have done all along.

I overwrote all the files in the directory with the new 2.7.1 ones; moved in my theme and plugins, replaced the wp-config file with the one from the backup that did actually get backed up, and it worked. When I activated the plugins they worked as well (although e-commerce took a bit of mucking around.
