I am receiving dozens of spam emails per day that show as being sent out by [email protected]

I have confirmed it is not a plugin (I disabled my contact form and even put my entire site on maintenance mode.)

How can I stop this from happening? I’m to the point of just deleting the entire website.

Is it being sent from the site? Or is it now just in it’s own spam land?

Probably not, unless you’ve been hacked. Check something like Sucuri to see if you’ve been hacked. If so, a clean install of WordPress, theme, and plugins should take care of it.

It is possible to spoof a from address in an email. (It’s incredibly easy, actually.) But it is impossible to say more without actually seeing the email headers.

I think I figured it out, thanks to your suggestion about checking the headers. I feel silly for having not done that yet. It just seemed to be a WordPress issue to me, so I had not. However, it turns out it’s being sent from a client website that I designed that is not live yet and still has my email info for the demo. Their site name was in the Gmail headers. Thanks for the help!

Glad you got it sorted out!
