php year echo in footer

    I purchased the expansion pack and would like my footer to automatically update the year. In past projects, I have used the following code for the year:

    <?php echo date("Y") ?>

    Can you please indicate how to incorporate this code into the custom footer setting in Customizer (or explain an alternate method to implement this)?
