I’m using Askimet with Contact 7. I’d like to prevent spammy URLs from being entered into any text field. Contact 7’s info on integrating Askiment gives these examples:

    • [text* your-name akismet:author]
    • [email* your-email akismet:author_email]
    • [text your-url akismet:author_url]

    I have 3 Qs:

    1. Is it okay to use akismet:author_url in any text field, not just your-url? For example, I have forms with multiple text fields, such as Company, Subject, and Your Message. (I don’t use your-url anywhere.)
    2. If I can use akismet:author_url in a text field other than your-url, is it okay to use it in more than one? All?

Also, is it okay to combine Askimet with Contact Form 7 Honeypot? Any conflicts?

      Thanks for your help!

You can use the akismet:author_url option in any text field form-tags, but url or url* types would best fit. Any name is ok, not necessary to be ‘your-url’.

You can use the akismet:author_url option in multiple form-tags, but only the first one works.

I don’t know about the Honeypot.

Thank you! We’ve been getting hit with a lot of links to porno sites, but they’ve mainly been in the Message textarea. Now that I know only the first akismet:author_url will work, I’ll limit it to that one occurrence rather than place it everywhere.

My guess is that blocking the spam in the main Message is going to do the trick anyway — that is if they can even get past the akismet:author and akismet:author_email in the first place! ??

Thank you so much for your wonderful plugin and your kind help.

Can you do this without using Akismet?

For example can you prevent “format” recognition such as “disallow http” or similar instructions that will reject any attempt to insert URL?

This is a big issue for many Contact 7 users and not everyone wants to use Akismet.

Would be great to hear alternative ideas.
