    Hi,

Am using Photon on a website. WordPress latest. Theme: Divi

I notice that all my background images are NOT picked up by Photon – they still retain the original path. Is this expected behaviour?

    Also, can I ask ….

Do photon urls ever expire or change? Can I rely on the url to stay the same

    Many Thanks

    Regards Mark

Could you please post your site URL here, so I can have a look?

If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:

Photon URLs will not change, they will stay “forever”.
We mentioned this in https://jetpack.com/support/photon/ :

No cache invalidations – currently the images are cached “forever”. If you want to “refresh” an image you will need to change the name of the image. Adding random query arguments, commonly known as cachebusters, will not work.

    Hi Dat,
Thanks for coming back to me.
    To illustrate
    Current home page: https://adaptable-demo.com/
Currently a not-found page design I’m working on.
Page has one foreground image and one background image
The foreground image is picked up by photon correctly.
The background image is not ~ still retains the original path.
This behaviour is consistent across all pages I am developing.
The theme I am using is Divi ~ the page builder theme.
    Thanks
    Regards Mark

    Hi Mark,

Does the issue disappear when switching to another theme? If the problem remains, it might be caused by an image hotlinking protection service stopping Photon from accessing your images. What sort of security plugins are you using?

    Best,

    Hi Cena,
Actually switching to the default theme in WordPress it’s the same … the background image is not picked up by Photon.
Can I ask … Is Photon supposed to pick up background images? i.e. one’s without any image attributes.
I’m starting to think that Photon does not deal with images that don’t have image attributes.
    Many Thanks
    Regards Mark

If so, I think it seems the image hotlinking protection service blocking Photon.

    Can you check this point?

As far as I know, there is no similar issue like this. If you can show up a site having the issue, I’d like to check it.

On this page https://adaptable-demo.com/, there are two photos. Currently, you’re not enabling Photon, but they’re good as I see them via Photon:

    Hi Dat,

There is no image hotlinking protection going on. If there was I would do this at the htaccess level. I’m in control of this .. definitely not.

I am advised by Elegant Themes Support that Photon does not work with Divi background images. They state …

“I’m afraid that the Jetpack Photon addon only works with the img element, such as the image module, it cannot work for images set as background images. I’m really sorry about this!”

The two images that you have cited above are both foreground images … and they are correctly picked up by Photon when Photon is switched on. The page has a background image … this is not picked up.

    Many Thanks

    Regards Mark

At present, adaptable-demo.com is not connected to WordPress.com.

If you’re having an issue connecting it, we’d like for you to try connecting in a fresh browser session, with no cookies — perhaps in an incognito window.

Once you’ve opened a new browser session, log into the WordPress.com account that you will be connecting Jetpack to. Then, log into your site’s wp-admin and attempt to connect Jetpack again.

If that doesn’t work, can you please try a different browser than you usually use, and repeat the same steps mentioned above?

Are you referring to this image?

Once we get some feedback, we can take the next troubleshooting step in resolving your issue.
