Custom excerpt not showing

I am using the standard WordPress post editor to edit the default blog excerpt. The carousel plugin is not showing the custom excerpt, instead it just shows the first couple sentences of the blog post.

Is there a way to change this? I need the custom excerpt to appear in the carousel.
