Adding a floating side bar

have followed your great tutorial but I have one question. I see you don’t have place for the social media widgets on the homepage. I installed “simple social plugin” as you suggested somewhere but please can you advise me on how to make them appear on the static homepage or “float on the side”?
when I follow the instructions it says ” sidebar debug” and show a strange code on the bottom of the home page. I have opted for a static home page.
