In-Context Editing
-
Has anyone played with the idea of using the functions of the admin interface directly within a theme to provide in-context editing (plus “add new”, “delete” etc.) for clients who are very very not web savvy?
Basically, your client would go to their website, find the Login link (or username/password fields) at the bottom of the page, login, then get returned to the website (not directed on to the admin interface) where they will now see a whole lot of new links on the page with “Edit”, “Add New Post”, “Add New Page”, “Delete” and so on. When they click these links, instead of seeing the Admin interface, they get a a form field for “Title” and textarea box for content that appears to be in-context, i.e. surrounded by the usual website. They edit and save and the new content appears on the site instantly.
One satisfied web-numpty customer .
Thoughts?
I came up with this idea after failing to get a client up and running with WordPress. They are not stupid people, but really don’t have the time to figure our WordPress admin (even though it’s easier to learn then Facebook!?!?!).
