• Hi, I am a new user of wordpress and I am a little clueless. I am having a problem between setting up the Blog and homepage. Whenever I set the homepage to ‘show latest posts’ the blog page no longer is recognised as ‘the blog’ and depopulates and on the contrary when I set static pages, I do not know how to make a new page and link it to the actual ‘home page’ so this then depopulates and the blog populates.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    thanks guys

  • That is because your homepage IS your blog, when you set it to show your latest posts. No need for a “blog”.

Ok I understand. How do I set the blog page to just show articles…. or to seperate the two

With WordPress it can take a while to become comfortable with different terms and concepts. And important one is the distinction between PAGES and POSTS.
    – PAGES are each distinct stand alone entities, you manage them in the PAGES group in the dashboard side menu, importantly pages DO NOT belong to categories.
    – POSTS on the other hand are more fluid, posts are members of CATEGORIES, you create your own list of categories, categories can be nested. A post can be tagged as belonging to many categories. A good and well structured category list and hierarchy is an important design step.

The big deal is it is categories and hence POSTS that drive blogs, whereas pages provide closed stand alone pieces, POSTS are conceptually open ended.

The way that pages and posts get styles is controlled by your theme files, details here:

    Hope this helps.

I want my site to look like this:

    https://my.studiopress.com/themes/jessica/#demo-full

I am stuck because the blog page I have set up is not populating with my posts but i do not know how to set it up as so.

thanks for the information above. I have set up posts and assigned them to categories but now need to get them on my blog page……..

I think the problem I am having is i do not know how to migrate a default url homepage onto an actual static PAGE so when you click on the tab it takes you to default site and not a blank PAGE called Home

As you are using a commercial theme, you’d be better off seeking support from the theme’s developer/vendor. We do not have access to commercial products here, so there’s no way for us the check how this particular theme works. Try https://www.studiopress.com/support
