    Hi guys,

The last three days I have had this great problem on my laptop, and I found out that WordPress caused that problem.

    The problem:

Everytime I want to save or upload in image in my browser, the browser crashes. I am using Firefox as standard, but encountered the same problem in any other browser and also in some local programs like CCleaner.
Now, it seems that there is a problem with the link to my file explorer (File explorer itself works fine).

So why do I think that WordPress has anything to do with it?

Well, I have tried everything. Then on another forum I saw: ‘Create a new profile account on your laptop’. So I did, and indeed, the problem was fixed: I could save files again. Then, I tried to upload some images on my WordPress with the uploader in the browser and everything got stuck again, and on that profile I now have the same problem as I had before. I can’t save or upload any image, on any site, on any browser. Then I thought that this problem also occured the other day I was updating my website.

It is driving me insane, and I have tried every topic I came across and I really hope someone here can save me.

    Thanks in advance,

    Casper.

Are you able to share the website with us so we can run a few checks? If not, it will be tough to figure anything related out.

    That said,

The problem may be site related, PC related, or both. See, unfortunately there are folks out there that write some troubling code (plugins, themes) and even infect files that get shared.

    1. Run a full malware scan of your computer (and be aware of this: https://www.pcworld.com/article/3225407/security/ccleaner-downloads-infected-malware.html ).
    2. Run your site thru Sucuri. It’s not 100% but is about the best site scanner out there.
    3. If Sucuri shows the site is not infected, go to another PC and try to perform the media upload. If that fails, it’s surely the site.

    Please report back.

    Hi!

It turned out that Mcafee was the troublesome kid on my laptop, and WordPress just triggered it somehow (I’ve been using this laptop, with Mcafee and WordPress quite some time, so no idea why now…)

Completely uninstalled Mcafee, and it seems that everything works as should be!

    Thank you for your reply.

Hmmm, that is rather odd. Since McAfee is well used (still), I would suspect we would see many others posting here (and elsewhere) if there were current issues with McAfee and WordPress. I still suggest you do a full security review of your device(s) – especially if you now have no anti-malware services running. Try another solution, such as running Malwarebytes in safe mode and doing a full scan.

    Good luck!
