Change Short Language Names

    Hey there,
    first of all a really great plugin. Unfortunately I have an issue with the Short Language Names. My website should be in German and English. If I choose in WordPress the standard language of the site as German and select in your plugin to show it in Short Language Names then the German version is displayed as “DE_DE” and the English version as EN. When I choose the standard language of the site as English and do the same, then the English version is displayed as “EN_GB” and the German as “DE”. I just want it to be displayed as “DE” or “EN”, no matter what. Is there a way to fix this and change the default Short Language Names? Thank you.

    Hey,

    Thank you for the feedback.

    The Short language names are based on the slug that you can change in the TranslatePress Settings next to each language.

    If there’s anything else, please let me know!

    Hey, thank you for your answer! Unfortunately I cannot change the slug next to the original/default language, it is only possible for the second language. (Maybe it is different for the PRO version but no so in the free version)
    So, I assume the slug for the original/default language is being automatically loaded from somewhere in the database? How can I change that?

    You are right. It’s a bug and will get fixed.

    Can you open a ticket over at https://translatepress.com/support/

    I can send you the extra languages addon that doesn’t have this problem until we fix this in the main plugin as well (probably next week’s update)

    Hi Cristian,

    I was introduced to TranslatePress by the support team of WPZoom. Was quite impressed by your design! Very unique, convenient, and neat!

    I have a question – where exactly is the translation saved? In what folder in the server? If I update my theme, will I lose all the translations?

    Hi Wendy,

    The translations are saved in your WordPress database in custom tables.

    If you change your theme the translations will still be present.

    That being said, some strings are theme related (like the author information on blog posts) so those might need to be translated again since they are different strings with a new theme.
