Slow WP-Admin with Jetpack

Our WordPress admin dashboard has been running very slowly in recent weeks and we couldn’t work out why.

We deactivated the Jetpack plugin during some testing yesterday, and site performance instantly improved. Everything in the WordPress Dashboard is now pretty much instant.

The worst part was that we were only using two modules! – Site Stats and Spelling and Grammar.

It’s a real shame that the Jetpack plugin clearly carries a lot of bloat, even with modules deactivated. It seems it’s basically guaranteed to slow down your site, even if you’re running the latest finely tuned server stack as we are.

I hope the speed issues can be addressed in future releases, but we won’t be using the plugin until they are.
