Getting <!–more–> to validate in strict xhtml

Hi there,
Using the <!–more–> tag seems to invalidate my xhtml on the blog front page. When validating the single page version of the post it’s fine…
Compare https://www.sammarsh.net/ to https://www.sammarsh.net/?p=964 to see what I mean.
Any ideas how to get round this? It seems to be breaking the divs.
