I’m getting WordPress database errors all over the place. They come and go randomly but hasn’t gone away. This happened overnight.

My GoDaddy support couldn’t talk me through any fixes. I can’t figure out how to do it through the forum posts or the codex.

I’m very novice at this stuff.

Would someone look at my site and tell me how to fix?

Even phone support if you’re feeling incredibly generous.

I’ll send whichever kind soul who helps me an official Got Blogstein T-Shirt as a thank you!

You or your hosting company will need to empty the /tmp directory. If you’re on shared hosting, start a trouble ticket with your host. If you’re on your own dedicated server, you’ll need to hire someone to do this if you don’t know how.

    EDIT
Oh – I see you’re with GoDaddy hosting. Good luck.

uh oh…so are you saying these errors can never be fixed?

Not especially – it’s just that I’ve found GoDaddy support to be terribly lacking.

The error 17 is likely caused from the /tmp directory being full. MySQL uses that directory to build and store temporary tables.

You can get back on with support and see if they’ll check on it for you.

    A couple of thoughts:

    1. You’re using version 2.3.1 — a very old version.

    2. You’ve been blogging on that site regularly since Jan 2006, so if you haven’t done any maintenance on your database, then it’s probably time for a little “db care”.

It’s time (past time) for you to upgrade. You should start by taking a backup of your database and wp-content directory. Then incrementally upgrade…I would recommend going all the way to 2.7 even though the admin interface will look quite different and you will need to test your plugins to see if those you are currently using (audio player, for example) are compatible with 2.7. You will also need to pay particular attention to your db charset…you are probably using latin1 and by default, 2.7 is going to be looking for utf8 encoding.

Here is a video that may help…Godaddy doesn’t have Cpanel, but their Control panel is pretty easy to use, so it shouldn’t be difficult to apply what is shown in the video to your environment.

Thank you all for your advice…turns out the issue was indeed with GoDaddy on their end. It took the fourth person I spoke to today to recognize that it was them, but they assure me there was nothing I could have done to fix it and they’ll have it resolved in 24-48 hours.

Glad they’re going to fix it for you…you should still seriously consider upgrading — for the sake of security if nothing else.
